Greetings NylonRainbow,
Now there has to be a good story behind that name! And is this the way you prefer to be addressed?
You say that you are just realizing that you are transgender. I am just a couple of years ahead of you. It is a really amazing, wonderful and scary place to be. I recommend you take your time and enjoy all of the fun new experiences that will be opening up for you. There are so many things to do and so many wonderful new feeling to experience. You have already found your way to Susan's Place, a great place to start. It has helped my wife and me get a good handle on how to approach the changes that will take place and there are many many folks here on the site that will openly offer advice, wisdom, comfort and affirmation; all of which I have found need for in my journey.
You have already been researching this new world and have probably mapped out your path forward. I would like to suggest a few basic steps that have helped me along the way. A good support network is a great place to start, many would consider it essential. For me, this has my wife as my primary supporter and partner. My God and my spiritual beliefs are also critical. My next level of support is from local support groups. I have found two groups in my area that provide resource information, friendship and someone to talk to and hold on to when I need a shoulder to cry on. They have made this journey much easier. And lastly, I found a good gender therapist to help me work through and understand so many identity issues. Yes, I needed her to provide a letter to begin my hrt, but more importantly, she made sure that I at least heard about the things that I would be experiencing during the journey. I still go in to visit with her every couple of months.
Enough of my babbling, you are beginning a wonderful journey, I wish you well in those travels. Take your time and enjoy every step. And, hang on tight, you are in for one wild ride!
Anne
