During the Uni application process I'm needing to fill out my name and gender a lot. I'm pre-T, none of my documents have been corrected and I don't pass at all. :icon_cry2:

Is it worth writing a note that I identify as male and my chosen name? Especiall regarding renting a room. Or just grit through it till I pass and am further in my transition? For reference I'm heading to central/east Germany.

Ta!

Well, first, don't cry if you feel you don't pass. It's a process. Perhaps post a RL pic here and we can give you some support! Second, i have spent some time in Germany -- Berlin, and Potsdam, I would feel ok with just presenting as "me" regardless of what the paper work stated. It's not a crime to present as your identity gender. It's really up to you and your comfort level.

Oops, bad choice of emot...

I present as male (clothes, haircut, binding etc), but I dunno if explicitly stating that I'm trans will hurt my chances at getting a place to live. For now I've just filled it out as my legal documents state with no mention of male identity.

I'll not have anything really to do with the offices that processes them anyway and I can just introduce myself as I am to my neighbours and study mates.

You may want to put Germany in the Subject line. There are several people on the forum from Germany. I do not know the German culture or Laws so I am of little help. You do look male.

You pass in those pics for sure.:) As far as filling out forms, I don't know. Perhaps some of the German posters can respond to that. Of course, all of this depends on your own comfort level. Good luck and best wishes!

I think you pass. And I think the key here is that you have no dealings with the office who would be processing the forms, and you'd be able to interact with your new neighbors however you like. Is the housing being provided by the university / are you assigned it based on sex? That may be the only hang up, and if it is, I would personally make a phone call to an admissions counselor and see if they can give you any recommendations on how to proceed.

Thanks for the wishes =^.^=

Problem is that I don't pass socially. Always get miss'd, young lady'd and so on from stangers. Maybe when I meet people from the new place and introduce myself as a guy it'll help? Wait and see I guess. And once I move in I can finally find me doc and get T!

I've applied for Uni housing, but I'm on the waiting list. If I find a room elsewhere though it'll probably be an single apartment.

Knowing the German university system, I would be surprised if information from Admissions makes it to the teachers/professors. So you may need to tell every single one in person. Hope this has changed in the almost 20 years since I graduated...
Housing in Germany is traditionally is not gender separated (outside some very traditional frat / sorority housing) and is greatly different from the US system. In most cases housing is run by adjunct but independent organizations (In Berlin it was the Studentenwerk). Back then it was mostly studio apartments and you had to get on a long waiting list. At least half of students do rent outside.
Not the dorms with room sharing and dining halls common in the US.

Yeah, they have a Studentenwerk and I'm on their waiting list. The Uni external flats are pretty affordable though.

Guess I'll write an email to my professors or speak to them in person. Generally us studis don't have much personal contact with them though. Not in the bachelor anyway.
