I was a part of girl guiding for about 8 years,I was a brownie, guide, senior section and young leader. I would like to put this on my personal statement but I think it would look weird for a boy called luke to say this and so I was wondering if anyone had any ideas how I could say this? Should I put it as "part of the scouting movement"?

You could judt say you were a boy scout; employers don't tend to check whether you're telling the truth about hobbies and such.

You could just be honest. I'm an Eagle Scout and proud of it. On my parents' car there is a bumper sticker that says 'my daughter was an Eagle Scout.' It's obviously you're preference- but if you say you're a Boy Scout you need to do a lot of research of the ranks and stuff!

I'll just put that I was in scouting because guiding is  a part of scouting. It's not that I'm ashamed of having been a guide, it is just that boys aren't allowed in girlguiding whereas girls are allowed in scouts (well, here in the U.K. anyway) and since my personal statement is for getting me into uni I'd really rather not confuse them...

As scouting moves up the age groups, the gender barriers disappear to a greater extent, and it would be ok IMO to put that you were actively involved in scouting, and leave it at that.
