I finally faced my fears and spoke to my boss at school today (I'm a teaching assistant). I left her a letter on her desk before I went home last night, then she called me in for a meeting today. It actually went really well-she's going to liaise with the senior management (the head teacher etc) and we'll agree a timeline for transitioning. Potentially in January I will be returning to school as Mr H rather than Mrs H 😊 I'm so glad she's being supportive, as it will make transitioning at work much easier...

So happy for you :). I came out last year at my old job by sending an email to my manager then we had a meeting discussing name change etc. I then took a week off while she let everyone else know to make it less awkward. If you can do the same thing possibly over the xmas break.

Also be prepared for awkwardness around coworkers for a while. You might want to hold a staff meeting to tell them about what trans actually means.
They/them pronouns preferred.

Aw dang, thats friggin fantadtic, congrats!

I had a different situation where my job just transferred to a new store, and at that point most of my coworkers and stuff saw me as male before they saw my name and birth sex, so everyone just started calling me he, my manager asked if I go by he or she and it just went normal again from there. Its always nice to have such lovely and agreeable people during the transition process :]

I'm a teacher too. My boss was very supportive. No timeline on transition though - they don't consider that any of anyone's business here. Just made an announcement during department meeting about my name change, and started the next day as Mr J. Honestly, I've had more problems with colleagues (just a couple) than with the kids. They really don't care.

That's good to hear. Can I ask if you're in the UK? Feel free not to answer that if it's a problem 😊
