There's a very big German webside where you can discuss practically everything, upload art, storys and so on. I registered there years ago and of course said that my gender was female because I had never thought about that in those days.

As I finally realized my transsexuality, I thought nothing would be more easy than to pass on the internet. I didn't thought there would be a problem with that page since they don't state your gender beside your avatar or even on your profile, but lately I found more and more little hints like "Link to her storys" or something like that.
It gets even more complicated since I joined a nice little forum (as male) where everybody knowns each other, and a lot of those people are on the other internet page as well and could stumble across this gender inconsistency.

And you can not change the gender or name (I mean your real name, not username) you registered with. I know I shouldn't be nervous about writing a letter to some help desk, but the people at the help desk are just users like everybody else--it's like telling your teacher and you don't know what he might think about it or whom he might tell...
Besides, it would be the very first time I outed myself as transsexual...

delete and make a new account? If it's a possibility.

I would but I've posted a lot of stuff there and especially in the last couple of weeks I have met some nice people I wouldn't like losing.
Most of them think I'm male anyway, because they know me from the other page. It's just that stupid personal pronoun that you can stumble across I you look at my storys or my profile to closely...

any way you can go back and edit those? :)

No, no, I corrected the very few wrong pronouns I wrote myself long ago. But there are automatically generated links that go like "Link to her stories" and since it's automatically generated I can do nothing about it.

ohhh okay.  Well maybe it would be worth it to just try to contact that help desk and just be like. . . "Oops I filled in the wrong gender can you change it?"

And I noticed that like five years later? ;D
But I guess I'm just being paranoid I mean what do I expect them to do? Send an message to everybody to inform them about my transsexualism? That's just ridiculus...
I've just discovered a list of the people on the help desk and I don't know anybody of them (or can remember coming across one of them in the forum) so that shouldn't be a problem. Still it's weird to send such a messages when you don't know exactly who will read it...

Just don't even tell them and just ask to have your gender changed on your profile.  Maybe you could try that first :D

I think that's just the thing I'm pondering now: would it be better to say I wanted to change because of transexuality or just talk about a gender change?
They would definitely ask for a reason--I mean I've registered with my real name (you have to) and it is definitely female. I don't care about the name though because nobody can see it if you don't want to...

I'd say just tell them you wanted your gender changed on your profile.  Just say it's for personal reasons or something if they ever try to pry it out of you.  I don't think you "have" to tell these people anything if you don't want to.  I know I really wouldn't feel comfortable telling people that I'm a transsexual, so can you change my gender.  I'd rather just try a less informative way first, then if it comes down to it, you can always tell, although I doubt they'll pressure you that much.

You are probably right, but it discourages me a little that they actually check your personal data. I mean I understand it...it is such a huge community and it's of course important that the side won't be abused for something illegal and everything, but it makes me wonder if they would let me change my gender just like that. :-\
But it doesn't help I will just have to ask.

contact them... if they give you trouble simply copy over the stuff you really want to keep.  I'm sure your new friends would follow you.

It was very common for female writers to adopt a male pen name and persona to be taken seriously. Still is, if a female writes in a typically male genre. So, they may not think anything of it at all.
Nero was the Forum Admin here at Susan's Place for several years up to the time of his death.

It's the FtM forum, Nero, so it's the other way around. Still, you could use the "I was just trying on a female persona" line if questioned.

It's a bit more complicated since it's more than just a place where you can upload your stuff, but a huge community and you have to register with your real personal data. Legally speaking I'm lightyears away from male gender, but I hope since they already have my real name (but only the admins can see it), it wouldn't be a problem to change my gender because everybody sees it in little details...I hope they just need the users' gender so there can be automatically generated captions or links that go like "His profile" or "Link to her other stories".

But anyway I wrote them a couple of hours ago and just asked if it was possible to change the gender I registered with. We will see what they answer.

Gah! >:( >:( >:(

I just received my reply. They said it was possible but they would need a f*ing evidence that that was really my gender...

that got complicated fast :P

I vote for reregister and just tell all your friends!

(p.s. Incubi, Austria is bomb.  When I was living in Germany for a little while for an exchange program we all went to Salzburg and roamed around.  Really beautiful place)

They actually check your personal data...the only thing I could do would probably be to register with my brother's identity, but I don't really want to do that...
I don't now...I think I will just write a profile (I'm lazy with things like that ;)) where I state clearly that I'm male and if somebody addresses me wrongly I will correct them...

Either way up to you.  What if you could just delete your account then reregister.  I also don't understand how they like verify all your data. . . it sounds a little personal if you ask me too to some extent.

@Austria
I've been to Salzburg year ago with school. I myself live in Carinthia with is the most Southern part of Austria...(and the most backwater I sometimes think...)

I know, I don't really understand it myself...it seem a bit futile and overcareful to me.
