Hey all, so I've been more or less transitioning for over 5 years now and through all of my experience I still have many unanswered questions about HRT for non-binary AMABs. I spent the first four years of transition as an mtf, but have since realized that I more closely and accurately identify as some form of non-binary and have begun appropriately re-transitioning in a way but I'm unsure what to do about my hormone regimen. I don't want to completely go off of hormones due to the strong masculinizing effects of T (and impending difficulty presenting androgynously), but at the same time don't want to stay on the dosages that my endo put me on in the past as I feel like they're a little too feminizing and reduce my T levels too much. As of then, I've reduced my spiro dosage on my own to a quarter of what'sprescribed, with no adjustment to estradiol and progesterone, but I'm unsure of where to go from here, and haven't seen my endo in quite a while so haven't had a chance to talk to them about it. I haven't noticed much subjective difference since doing so. I'm considering going off of spiro completely and staying on E and maybe/maybe not P, I've heard that E without anti-androgens can be ineffective but I'm wondering to what extent, and considering that I'm young and had relatively low T levels before HRT I feel like it won't be any issue. My goal is to have more balanced hormone levels, obviously not completely balanced, I'd like my E levels to remain higher than my T but I would like to close some of the gap between them if possible and regain the lesser effects of T. I'm having trouble finding resources regarding an HRT situation like this anywhere else online, so any help/advice would be greatly appreciated <3

Hi oneiros

Welcome to Susan's and I hope you enjoy your time here.

The best person to ask for advice would be your endocrinologist, no one on this site is qualified to give you such information.

Regards

Liz

Elizabeth's advice is sound.  Similar hrt dosages can produce quite different physical and emotional impacts on different folk.  The best and only safe way is to find an endo who has experience with non binaries and low dose hrt.  These endos are best placed to work with you to understand your objective, your reaction to varying dosages and the best way forward.
Your story is similar to mine in that I also thought that I was binary mtf and took a while to understand and accept that this was not who I was.  Working with my endo we first took the hrt back to a lower dose then over a couple of years we varied first the spiro and then the E; then we varied both together.
Now in my 7th year of low dose hrt my endo allows me to vary my dosage but I remain careful, having my blood checked 6 monthly and meeting with my endo to discuss the results.  In my case emotional balance and shutting down dysphoria have been my primary objectives.  In this I have been very successful but this is a journey and the journey is way more important than what you may first understand to be your destination.  Take your time, be thoughtful, take care and seek the advice of those who can provide the guidance and counsel to move forward safely and joyfully.
Safe travels
Aisla
