I'm thinking they'll just get in my way tbh so I'm planning to still go in January and let them do what they do. After all I'll still be looking to switch my hormones to NHS. But keep my February plan under my hat.

Maybe I'm being too hard on them but I'm thinking their idea of seeing me in January will end up being giving me an appointment for like February or later. Be funny as hell for my first real appointment at GIC to be after surgery then they'll have missed the whole game. Got to admit I'd kinda get a kick out of that though lol

Has anyone got any experience of being fully open to their GIC about planning to go to Thailand with positive results.

No experience here, but I suspect you wouldn't be the first. They get people through their doors at all stages of transition. They are not allowed to discriminate or deny care if you have or are also using private healthcare. Given they've had patients detransition after more than year of RLE (nothing wrong with that), I do understand why they want two years before before surgery.

I'm often of the view its better to ask for forgiveness than permission.

For those that choose to detransition fair play but no way in hell I'll ever let myself die that way again. First time I didn't know what was happening and I resent that enough.

They don't know anything yet beyond I called in Jan 2016 looking for help and they say they'll call back in Jan 2017....

I suppose it is more fitting tbh that I finish the job of saving myself considering "saving me" used to be his job so there is a degree of satisfaction and maybe even a bit of justifiable pride in myself.

As they won't be able to help in way I'm thinking the best they will do (if  even seen before February) is nothing.

With that in mind it'll be easier to explain it to them once it's done.

Yeah I think I've decided there's nothing to gain so I'll just surprise them after. Heck I'll probably have my gender recognition certificate and birth certificate replaced before I see them for the whole package minus "official" meds.

OK new plan I'll tell when I get back but still see them if they do call prior.

I think there's a few things to consider.

If you tell them is there anything they can do to stop you?

You might need medical care when you get back, and will telling them now make any difference to that? For example if you need strong prescription painkillers if you have granulation, bleeding, or a UTI. Do you know who to see for those kinds of things, especially if you're in a hurry?

I have to admit I fear they could somehow mess with my plans so it represents a risk without any potential gain.

Naturally on my immediate return to UK I will be reporting to my amazing GP with copies of all available paperwork to arrange for having my work checked out by an appropriate specialist.

If any painkillers or antibiotics etc within his power are needed he will take care of it. If it's something more serious he will send me to the best person who can.

In case of a full blown emergency I am less than 10 mins from the nearest hospital.

After GP visit it's time to file for gender recognition certificate and that'll be me legally female with a nice new shiny birth certificate to prove it. All done 🙂

Can't honestly think of a single thing the GIC can do for me except arranging meds and that's kind of funny and yet also tragic. I've no idea how someone like me would have survived without the outrageous good luck I have enjoyed since I got back.

Then again if they meddled in the beginning maybe I wouldn't have made it........

Can't the GIC get you SRS on the NHS? For free?

Yeah but I'd rather be fixed before my next birthday and pay a debt for a few years than wait a few years to get fixed for free.

From viewing the testicles as a gun to my head through to seeing my current genitalia as a horrific shameful disfigurement. I've suffered enough.

I also genuinely believe that I'll get a better job done in Thailand and I definitely deserve the best after losing so much life.

Thinking about it even if they could match my timeline I'd still pick Chettawut. That's as good a sign as you can get.

at my last appointment at the GIC we discussed my surgery and i had already decided to go with Dr Chett as well.

they were fine with it but and wrote me the necessary letters for the surgery. but they did try and talk me out of it for some reason. all of the types of reasons you would expect them to give and i had all the answers to counter their arguments. all of the same reasons it sounds like you are going to go to thailand. i think we all deserve the best possible outcome from the procedure and not some rushed cookie cutter approach that the nhs seem to adopt.

so generally they were fine and are aware of thailand and its reputation. they arent going to complain if it saves them 1 more operation thats for sure.

Yeah I'm generally very open about everything to everyone but my spider sense tingles when I think about telling them about Thailand.

Personally I find prospect of being second guessed by people who know nothing about me very patronising so I think I'll skip that part.

Glad to see my thoughts are not completely unfounded.
There is nothing they could say to change my mind but why bother having a "discussion" that no good can come from.

Very glad to hear another girl in the same position with the same outlook on it.
