So, I've been putting this off for a couple years now. I've recently started trying to stand while going to the bathroom. It's a pretty big thing for me to accomplish, considering I am the absolute worst kind of bladder shy. I had to gradually get used to standing, including straddling the bowl backwards like someone who's never used a toilet before. After a couple days practice and pushing my daily 8 glasses of water intake, I have had some success :) However, I'm still nervous, and I can't seem to empty my bladder fully when I stand. That's the annoying part. And as much as I'm happy I finally got the courage to make this happen, I have now become severely impatient on mastering it.

I know most of it is stress, but it's hard to relax when anxiety is talking your ear off while you're trying to go. Also, I can't go unless the sink is running, and all my brain wants to think about is how much water I'm wasting while I'm standing, waiting for my body to relax.

My kidney doctor told me to up my water intake to keep my stones in check, but I think I had 4 sixteen ounce servings already today, and yesterday. I'm worried about taking in anymore. I also ordered a green Go Girl a few days ago, and I should get it tomorrow; I read it has an easier learning curve than most stps, so I'll see tomorrow if it's true. Anyways, is this just something that takes more time to get used to? Do you have any tips on relaxing more?

Are you referring to standing in public bathrooms or just in general? I've been on T for 2 years and have been presenting as male closer to 3, and I still have trouble using public bathrooms. I never really tried standing to pee until recently either, although I don't really do it that often anyway and only ever when I'm at home. It is pretty awkward with female anatomy, but I guess I'm not exactly sure I understand what it is that's making you anxious.

Well both public bathrooms and in general make me nervous... I just wanted to know if others get choked up doing it for the first time as well.

It took me until hysto/vaginectomy until i could pee with people within earshot around me. I'm not sure if that's partly psychological or if the procedure changed something (I needed a catheter for three weeks and I pee different now either way) but I recognize your trouble.

Practise in the shower, while showering, then you don't have to worry about aiming or getting your clothes wet, and it will teach you to empty your bladder standing up. Helped me a great deal in the beginning.

I have always been able to pee standing up even as a kid but I wanted to do it while clothed like cis men. I bought a medicine spoon type STP packer and started practicing in the shower,it was useless for me although others do well with them,I gave up for a long time until my dysphoria got much worse so I purchased a FreeTom rogue, naturally I practiced in the shower but within a week I was able to stand at the toilet and pee through the fly of my boxers with my jeans undone but still up.The problem with a lot of people is not being able to let go of their pee when standing,it is known as being p shy,it is because we are so used to sitting down that when we try standing up our brains tell us it's wrong and we will wet ourselves and it takes a while to unlearn what we have been doing for almost a lifetime. Practicing in the shower as Dutch-boy rightly stated is the best way to start as we know in our minds that if we get it wrong it doesn't matter. Controlling your flow, relaxing and breathing properly also helps with using a STP,start by only letting a small amount of urine out to see if you have it positioned correctly and then let the flow out gently and steadily, over time and with patience your confidence will build and you will find it much easier, then you can progress to using the toilet, put an old towel on the floor if you still feel uneasy. I hope this helps you to conquer this. Go girl is a good starter by the way, best of luck. Oh I am pre T and everything else so I don't have any extra advantages.
