Hi! I have had a hard time with something and I want to know if I am the only  one who has this issue. When I carry a purse, I can not keep it from sliding off my shoulder. I am constantly having to readjust it back up so it doesn't fall. It is the most ridiculous thing considering I have broad shoulders. So annoying! I tend to use a longer strap so it rides on the lower side of things. Heck I even have the narrower hips so there is nothing to bump into it with. lol

While I'm here with my dumb question, what does everyone call it.
A) A purse
B) A handbag
C) A pocketbook

My wife and I have a running argument. She is from the south and calls it a purse. I am from New York, and I say pocketbook. Might be an interesting vote if I knew how to set it up. Any thoughts?

I wear mine low, too. I hold the strap and kinda push it towards the  center of my body just a tiny bit. My question is whether anyone else notices that they get smaller and you eventually need to get a bigger one?

And having been born, raised, and living in the shadow of NYC the strap goes across your body making it harder for the infamous "Snatch & Grab".

I call it a purse.

Yes, I have the problem of anything on my shoulder sliding off.  But my wife pointed out that, to foil purse snatchers, I should be wearing the strap over the opposite shoulder.  (i.e. stick my head through the strap)  Problem solved.

That has the added benefit of the strap across my chest emphasizing my cleavage! 

 It's just "my bag". Tend to do the across the chest with the strap mostly. Do the strap on one shoulder sometimes, never seem to have any trouble with slipping, but have been toting a briefcase everyday for 10 odd years so kind of use to something hanging off one shoulder.
Side note.... in the 60's "pocketbook" seemed the most used term as I recall. Never could figure that out. It's not a book and you can't put it in your pocket ?
Have to agree with Devlyn Marie, after you buy one they seem to shrink. Have one of the largest bags Coach sells, think I should have asked for the XXL size. Jessica.

Side-Side Note.... The Grandma Pocketbook. Just like Felix the Cat's magical bag of tricks, She always seemed to have whatever was needed.

To think, when I first started out, I thought, "What am I gonna get to put in this thing. I'll never fill it up!"

Most of my bags I call purse. I have an evening bag that is very small and I call it a clutch. I tend to wear my purse on one shoulder, I know that cross shoulder is safer but I just like the feel. As far as it staying put or sliding tends to vary depending upon my coat material; denim or suede offer no problem but polished leather or fabrics tend to slip. When they slip I use Devlyn's tip of one hand on the strap with a little inward pressure. This works for short strolls or mile long walks down town. And yes, my purse choices seem to growing in capacity. This growing need for capacity presents problems when I occasionally have to cross dress in my old guy clothes, the pockets don't have the capacity that I now seem to need. - Anne

weight , light purses never stay but load that sucker up ,which doesn't seem to be a problem for most of us anyways ! lol  I carry my life in my purse!

I call it a purse. I can't say I have a problem with it slipping off but I do
have pretty square shoulders. I do switch back and forth a lot between
boy and girl mode which is very annoying. Hope to end that soon.

I call what I carry, a purse. It is on the large side, and always has room for a couple cans of soda, or bottles of water. I carry it over one shoulder, riding against my waist. I don't have to worry about purse-snatchers where I live, otherwise I'd use a hip-pack again.

Purse/bag.... I believe it depends on the width and the stiffness of the straps... The wider and the stiffer the straps I find that the more it slides and the narrower and softer the straps the longer they stay.... Just my theory lol

I call mine a purse. I love to have mine high and on my shoulder all though sometimes I will just carried it in my hand. Hugs

I don't count as a typical female, but I wear a thin clip-on money belt and a backpack.

I carry a backpack because I might buy something while hiking around town, carry teaching supplies to and from work (I hike a km each way from the songtheah stop to the beach side schools), a thin rain suit in case of sudden downpour, a copy of my passport and driver's license, a water bottle, my Galaxy Note 10.1, and few emergency herbs in case of losing my voice from being around chalk dust.

It's a bag. Heah'n th' bahstan area we call 'em bags. As in "wayas ya bag, dahlin?".

I love bags. I have a question for those that still alternate between male and female presentation. Do you use a bag in male mode? I'm still many miles away before I am fully transitioned but my wardrobe is 80-90% women's. That means umpteen pairs of jeans with ridiculously little pockets in the front. I'm good with that but there's no place for keys, cards, chapstick, hair elastics, cellphone .... I have this great bag from duluth trading post that is the most functional accessory I've ever seen. And it definitely can go both ways even though it's not exactly the most stylish.

I've always thought of them as a purse. Personally, I like the smaller ones with the short strap that tucks right under your arm.

From California for most of my life....it's a purse. And welcome to many of the PITA issues of being a Woman. Least you got a place now to keep all your crap

I have found most purses are used as mobile filing systems for bills, keys we don't know what they open. Old stale cosmetics. and ignored parking tickets. Three sets of sun glasses. I have been putting my life in a little 3 X 4 inch wallet in my back pocket for 65 years. If there is one thing I may miss as I transition, pockets.

Ah yes, pockets were kind of handy, along with having all our stuff in a little 3x5 wallet.
I did always notice in my previous life that when ever I need something like a pen, piece of paper, tooth pick or whatever, it was always a woman that came up with it.

Now I'm the one that comes up with it. My next purse will be bigger that what I can carry if my current trend continues!
