I'm currently in the process of changing my name and gender (They're both legally changed--yay!-- but I need to update my info everywhere) and it's taking way longer to update my info with my health insurance than I realized. I talked to one of their representatives on the phone about a month ago and they told me to fax the doctor letter and court order name change, which I did. Then I never heard anything so I called again a couple weeks later and they said they got everything but it was being processed and they would email me or send a letter when the change had been made. Well, it's been several more weeks and I haven't heard anything. I can't update any of my medical providers until I change the insurance (they have my preferred name and pronouns but are really inconsistent about using them and I'm sick of having to correct them). So I'm just not sure what to do at this point. Is it normal for it to take this long? Everything else has been super fast except birth certificate and passport, which I was expecting...

Insurance companies are the sloths of the business world... until they're the ones that stand to benefit, of course.
I have to deal with them a lot at my work and I was actually just about to contact them tomorrow for myself to have my name and marker changed, as well. I find the best way to deal with them is to repeatedly call until you get your intended result. Don't let weeks and weeks pass between calls. There's obviously no need to call them multiple times a day or  daily, but keep a fire lit until you start seeing results. Ask for potential time frames with your inquiries 'When do you think I might receive notice that this has been finalized?' and make sure they've received the necessary documentation to process your request.

Haha, they definitely are sloths. Thanks for the advice. I agree that calling more often is probably a good idea, just get frustrated at the hassle. I hadn't thought of asking for a time frame, but that's a good idea too.
