before i get into my story, my question is just, has this happened to you because of binding, do you think its serious, and do you have any advice or knowledge that might help? and no i cant afford to go to the er btw. i go to the free indian clinic and have to call them monday and set up an appointment there.

anyway ive been binding a lot lately since its the holidays and i'm getting out more/ seeing extended family. my binder is a couple sizes smaller than recommended which has never been a problem before but lately im getting really bad back pain but i ignored it since ive already had a history of back problems and so i dont back pain seriously. but last night my brother woke me up at like 3:30 because he wanted to use my computer and since i couldnt go back to sleep i started walking downstairs and halfway down i started shaking from pain and could barely make it to the couch. after a while i felt ok enough to go to the medicine cabinet and grab some pain killers but even that was hard and i took some stuff out without putting it back because i was in such a rush to sit down. eventually i got better but then laid down for a nap and even through tossing and turning i wasn't in too much pain but when i woke up and stood up my back was immediately in excruciating pain and i felt sick to my stomach and nauseous. it was worse than last night, by a lot.
So does anyone recognize the symptoms and know what's wrong with me? i know this is a weird website to get medical opinions but i assume someone else has probably had similar experiences with binding and know whats going on from experience.

I'll admit to knowing next to nothing about using a binder but I do know that guys can still have problems with normal sized binders and that if it is too small that can hurt you. Please consider going up to recommended size and easing off for a bit to allow the tissue and muscles to heal - the last thing you want to do is cause yourself permanent harm.

Long term, even short term use of something that is so many sizes to small can result in damage and discomfort. Best to go with the size the manufacture recommends. Whatever you your going to want to take it easy and be careful. Hugs

Wearing a too small binder could definitely do damage but are you sure the pain is from binding? I'm not a medical doctor but you need to rule out other medical problems that can give similar symptoms. The first thing that comes to my mind is a gallbladder attack. Please try to see a doctor if your symptoms persist.
I would definitely suggest moving up to a proper fitting binder. I bind every day and I actually find it comfortable and comforting.

See a doctor. Wearing a binder that's sized properly can screw up your back over the long term. I can only imagine wearing something too small would make that happen even faster.

See a doctor. Other than that, pulling muscles in your back is really painful and it may take a month or two in order to recover from it. The problem is you can't just stop using your back muscles and that slows the recovery. Unfortunately you may need to stop binding until you recover and then you should wear a properly fitting binder.

I have back issues, sometimes sharp pains or continuous aches which I think is something to do with the spine/discs and not the muscles around it, but nothing that would make me want to throw up or what I'd describe as excruciating, and not from binding specifically. If you don't normally have back problems the binder is possibly compressing your spine area. The horrible pain comes when two vertebrae grind together, trap the nerves, a disc misplaces or spinal lubricants accumulates due to spending too long in one position.... which is hard for a binder to cause I imagine, but if you're not used to that type of compression I guess it would put your spine under pressure it was not designed for.

Most back stuff resolves for me after a day or so, but only if I stop doing whatever I did to cause it. So I would quit binding for a while with one too small and see if it stops

I once made the mistake of getting one two sizes too small (this was after, unbeknownst to me, Underworks completely changed the cut and size of their binders a few years back)... I never wear it. I can't. I don't even think I could, were I to shed ALL of my weight, because it pinches the living hell out of my shoulders.

You need to stop using that binder immediately, and get one the correct size. The only time you can go ONE size smaller, is if you're in-between the two. Binding too tight, and for too long, can actually damage your ORGANS never mind pulling/tearing muscles. You can even crack ribs. It's just an all around BAD idea.

If you really looked around, NO man has a perfectly flattened chest. That is not the object of binding. The correct size is enough. I'm unfortunate enough to have to deal with D's, and yet I never have a problem being 'misgenered' with a correctly sized binder. They just look like sculpted pectorals - the goal. And I can wear mine clear until bed (I can and even have worn it while working out too) with no discomfort or pain whatsoever (but I NEVER sleep in mine). So, again, the correct size IS enough (even for D's!). Get a correctly sized binder, bottom line.

The first thing you should do is not ask online but instead go to a doctor. You mentioned that you already had previous back problems and the mention of nausea means it could be any number of issues from a back problem to appendicitis. If it were just back pain alone I'd say that binders like any kind of constrictive clothing on your torso can contribute to weakening your back muscles over time, and the weaker your back/less able for it to support itself the more pain there will be. Strengthening the back muscles would be one thing to consider with that problem.

But again since you're mentioning both back pain and nausea then you need to see a doctor urgently rather than listen to people's unqualified speculations online.
