Clitoral reduction surgery following vaginoplasty

Hello,

Has any transwoman had clitoral reduction surgery following vaginoplasty to reduce the size of the clitoris? The reason why I ask is because my clitoris is still abnormally huge and protruding over the labia following my vaginoplasty in October. My surgeon last Monday administered a cortisone injection in the clitoris in an attempt to reduce the size and swellling, but I haven't noticed any change in the clitoral size.  According to my surgeon, it might take several months for the size and swelling of the clitoris to go down. I can wait for this process to occur.  I don't know if my surgeon, who started performing vaginoplasties this year, has surgical experience with clitoral reduction. I'm very concerned about loosing sensation and nerve damage, if I have clitoral reduction surgery. I know that Dr. Gary Alter performs clitoral reduction for women who want the size of their clitoris reduced. I emailed Dr. Alter's office to find out if Dr. Alter would be willing to perform clitoral reduction on me in event that my surgeon isn't able to reduce the size of my clitoris. I'm waiting to hear back from Dr Alter's office.
Sincerely,

Caitlyn

Perhaps you should also have a look at the wide range of clitorial sizes in cis-women... This website gives a pretty good impression:

Quote
Clitoral width ranged from 0.2 to 2.5 centimeters with an average of 0.8. Participants had a clitoral length of anywhere from 0.4 to 4.0 centimeters, with an average of 1.6 centimeters (a bit smaller than the button on your jeans). One especially interesting finding is that "increased clitoral width was associated with likelihood of orgasm during intercourse," says the abstract. So if you're hitting the jackpot almost every time, you may have been blessed with a wider clitoris than women who have an easier time getting off in other ways.

So, there's that. As far as swelling goes, this varies too. Some girls report that their swelling went down in around 3-4 weeks, whereas others still had significant swelling up to 9-10 months later. Perhaps you should give yourself some time for it all to recover? If it still is the way it is next summer, you can always consider a second opinion from Dr. Alter.

Hi Lilifee,

Thank you for addressing my post.

Prior to creating this thread, I was aware that the clitorises of cis and I will add trans women come in all sizes and shapes. Until a few days ago, I didn't know that the clitoral glans of women look very similar to the penile glans of men. I was very surprised upon learning this during my research about clitoral sizes.

My surgeon says that my clitoris is "huge".

If in several months the size and swelling of the clitoris hasn't gone down to my satisfaction, I will have Dr. Alter perform a clitoral reduction on me and add hooding. Dr. Alter looked at photos of my clitoris that I emailed him, and he said that he can perform the aforementioned procedures on me.

I want my clitoris to look small and incospicous in that it hides below the labia minora and doesn't protrude lopsided over the latter as it does now.

Sincerely,

Caitlyn

You should not view your large clit as a negative factor.  Any future partner who views it as a negative is not worth having.  He/she might even find it to be rather attractive.

Well in the end you're the one who's gotta live with it... In any case, it's good to know there is somebody who help you get what you want! May I ask where you got your surgery in the first place?

Hi,

You raise valid points.

To address them, I will tell you that my concern about my clitoris stems from me personally not liking the look of it, particularly because it's lopsided and protrudes over my labia. I could live with the large size of my clitoris, if further surgery can't reduce it.

I'm not basing my concern and dislike about the appearance of my clitoris on whether or not a future partner would like the look of it. I don't currently have a partner. Not to be snotty, I don't care if a future partner doesn't like the look of my clit. I want clitoral reduction, whether through the body healing on its' own or by a surgical revision, for me.
Sincerely,

Caitlyn

Hi,

Drs. Jess Ting and Marci Bowers performed my vaginoplasty on October 24th at Mount Sinai Beth Israel in NYC. More info about my surgery is at the link below:

Hi,

I read online that the larger the clitoris the more the sensation.

Sincerely,

I don't think the size matters... sensation is provided by the nerve bundle that's been wrapped inside the skin, and that is the same number/sensitivity of nerves (which varies by patient) regardless of how big the "wrapper" is. A larger clit may be easier to access, allowing for better stimulation, but that's not the same thing.

Of course, that's also why the reduction is, unfortunately, a risk; any time a surgeon messes with those nerves, there's a chance they won't recover.

My surgeon told me that he will bury a part of my clitoris. That way, there is the illusion of a smaller clitoral size, and maintaintance of sensation.

I ha-ve a large clitoris too. I will be having labiaplasty in May. At that time  a clitoral hood will be made. Is that what your doctor is doing?

Hi Rachel,

I hope that Dr. Ting will create/give me more of a clitoral hood. I'm embarrassed to write that I don't know if I already have a clitoral hood lol. I did inform Dr. Ting that I would like clitoral hooding. I will confirm with him in a few weeks, before my labiaplasty, to make sure that he knows that I want a clitoral hood.

How did your surgeon reduce the appearance of your clitoris?
Sincerely,

Caitlyn

Sorry, I changed the word had to have. I have a large clitoris too. The hood will be skin over the clitoris to cover it. You can gently move the skin to expose the clitoris I was told a clitoral hood is done as an in-office procedure after the GCS healed. This is covered with my cost of GCS.

If you can see the clitoris from attachment to end and side to side there is no skin covering it and you do not have a hood.
