I'm in my forties, been cross dressing off and on most of my life.  Only recently started to feel like there was more to it than that.

I've always been "sensitive", "feminine", even frequently mistaken for gay. 

I've come looking for help figuring out who I am and what I can do about it.

I would strongly recommend you to seek counselling, either public (with wait list, yuck) or private (expensive, but can be covered by independent benefits) to help you uncover the answers you need. You may like what you find, you may not, it may not phase you at all. But there *IS ALWAYS* a way forward, and it may not be easy, but nothing worth doing ever is.

Thanks so much for the warm welcome ladies and thanks for the advise.

I checked the transition channel and am still uncertain.  One of the primary indicators is dysphoria and I haven't really experienced much of that.  I'm fine with whatever the truth is.  I'm me and can only continue being me.  It just so happens that includes dressing and feeling like a girl.  The compulsive part of me just wants so badly to put the correct label on it.

There aren't many mental health professionals here in rural nowhere.  I've been waiting months to get to see a therapist just for my anxiety and depression.  I'd be shocked if there were any nearby that specialized in gender issues.

Welcome to Susans. I was a crossdresser  for a long time too before I needed something more.  I finally decided transition was right for me last year.  Sounds like you may need to travel some to find a therapist. But it's so worth it.  I hope things work out.

There are options on therapist. Some therapist are willing to work over Skype. This would allow you to have therapy sessions in the comfort of your own home. All you need is a video capable computer and an internet connection.
