Well I can't believe it! I have a firm date. There were some communication snafus which is all ok because I have a date and it's within the timeframe they'd initially told me. I'll fill in some of the details later.

There was also some luck involved and I'm taking it that the goddess has smiled for me today.

Now I'm going to sit with this happy news. Thanks to you all here who've helped me be able to choose as well as bear all the waiting and hoops that needed jumping to get here.

I hope to start digging into travel and places to stay tonight and over the weekend and a friend who lives in the Mission is definitely willing to put me up for one or maybe even two weeks of my recovery which will be nice for keeping the budget in check.

Thanks Andrea! So pleased to be joining you in the brownsteine&crane class of '17 :-).

I've priced reasonably comfortable and direct flights via JetBlue and airbnb locations in the Haight and Noe valley. Together with a stay with my friends in the Mission it looks like I  could keep my base trip costs under a couple thousand, far better numbers than I'd been hoping for :-).

So nice to be able to work on the mundane deets rather than being stuck worrying about dates and whether they're workable at all :-). I think I can probably spring for a "mint" seat for some extra comfort on the return.
