Hey all,

I'm pre-transition and as generally happens every 4-6 months or so, the ove of my life has told me my ragtag curly mop is getting too long for polite company.  I'm tired of going along to get along, and maybe this is where it starts.  What sort of cut can I get that will be able to pass as a femme style, especially after some grow-out and restyling.

"Short on the back and sides, finger length up top" at Supercuts was getting old anyway... not that I have anyting against Supercuts!

Welcome to Susan's Place. If I went 6 months without a cut, I would have a pile of hair. About the longest I can do s 2 months and by then it starts to get pretty ratty. Without a picture and knowing more about your hair, it's difficult to suggest a style. The best site I found to look for a style is Hair Finders as they seem to have just about everything in the book.

A great question, and am also hoping that others with experience growing their hair out can give input.  I've done the partial grow-out a few times but this time I'm letting it go.  My wife is very supportive of a transition (she knows it's healthy for me) so that isn't an issue.

Short of uploading a picture, my hair is roughly like actor Seth Rogen's, but getting longer (between an inch and 2" if pulled straight).  Hope that helps?

Megan.

I went into my local hairdresser and just said I wanted to move my hair to a more feminine style while keeping it smart for work. I get the top trimmed ever so lightly and the sides and back tidied every six weeks while I grow out to a length that they can then cut into a short bob, which I'll then grow longer. Take their advice, it's their job!
On my most recent trip I explained fully the reason (transition next spring) though they'd likely guessed anyway, they were excited and more than happy to help and gave me plenty of hair care advice.

Not so much. I have gone over a year with very little TV, pretty well no movies for 3 years and I don't watch any of the latest shows. I had to google the name and it's still a problem because I don't know the shape of your face. With curly hair, an easy to take care of cut would be something like what I have in my current avatar. The length of that cut is about 4 inches at the most and it's wash then pick out with a hair pick. You only need to blow dry it if you want. Taking the curl out can be done but it requires a good deal of work after very wash or a few hours in a beauty shop.

I love the look but I was tired of getting perms all the time so I have changed to a cut that doesn't require a perm. A major disadvantage of a perm is that they start out tight and take about 2 weeks to relax. At about 6 weeks the curl has relaxed to the point you have to work on the hair to get that look. With naturally curly hair, you don't have that problem.

Hey.

I dunno because I really wanted to stop wearing wigs as we all know after awhile they can get very itchy after prolonged use. March 2014 I had 9 inch long hair so pretty much bottom of ear length long and that's when I said enough and started growing it out. Fast forward to now my hair is 25 inches long with a bit of waves. If anything I get the rockstar tag XD It's great cause I can feminize it when I get home (Out to mom and lil bro who are very accepting) Sometimes it's better to try and regret than not trying and regretting.
