So after a couple more months of waiting I am back again and ready to start HRT for good this time. I am no longer going to put my life on hold for other people and am going to be the woman I know I am.
So 2016 was the year I started doing a lot of adult like things, like having insurance from my parents and putting it in my name. And starting an investment account. Renewing my driver's license for the first time.

So my question is, when do I start changing my name and then how do I change it? Also, how difficult is it going to be to change all of my information. Especially the financial issues.

Also, just something that made me really happy. I talked with my insurance company today and learned that 90% of the cost for any surgery or enhancement will be payed for. That includes ffs, breast augmentation, laser hair removal, and pretty much anything I will need.

Name change laws vary from state to state and sometimes county to county. Changing SS card take a letter from the courthouse after your name change just like any other financial or ID place does, including driver license. Gender changes vary even more.

I found that having my name change done before I went full time worked best, for me. Gave weight to my transition and people took me seriously.

The process for name change in the states is usually filing paperwork at the court house. Paying a fee ($189 in AZ) and showing up for court appearance to swear under oath you're not trying to steal an identity, avoid legal issues, and understand the change in name does not relieve you of any commitments that you currently have. (Debt, child support etc )

If you don't mind me asking where are you located and what insurance do you have?

You'll need to send them a copy of the court order, and you're new driver's license.  For all my accounts that do not have local offices I contacted customer service, explained my issue, and was either able to upload, email or fax these items. Was a non issue.

Some people have reported that their credit report gets messed up as the reporting agencies end up creating a brand new profile until they see duplicate accounts and eventually merge the profiles. This is because there is no automatic system in place for first name changes, only last names. In fact I got allot of confusion from customer service reps that I was changing my first name. General enquiry was "marriage or divorce?" Along with congrats and condolences.

Beware of the IRS, name change caused them to say I didn't pay my taxes when I had. Send the court info to them as well.
