Megan.

Can anyone confirm for me, that if I've changed my name via deed poll and updated bank accounts, driving license, etc.. Is my passport still valid with my old name and gender? Thanks. X

Ms Grace

You may need to get a legal opinion based on your local laws, etc but I would think that it isn't valid. In some jurisdictions it might even be considered identity fraud since you are technically using an "alias"...

As Grace said. Local laws. In Australia it would be invalid, also if your appearance has changed it needs an update. Mm looking male in the passport and female in life may constitute that!

Ok, thanks for the thoughts all. I'm UK based but have dual citizenship. US/British which makes the whole passport change thing a real pain 😞. Guess I won't be going abroad for a holiday any time soon!

I was told changing a UK passport is very straight forward.

Changing and Aussie one is very simple. Just pay the money show the name change and put down the gender you identify as. It took me a few hours the forms are all online.

Now getting a photograph I could live with!

Another story........................

Indeed Cindy, I think official policy around the world is that passport photos must be unflattering 😃.

British law requires that for dual citizens other passports are changed before the British one, so I have to do my US one first...

Meghan may I tell you the tale of my first trip on my female passport?

I went to Bangkok to the WPATH conference and it was wonderful, my first trip as me and with friends from ANZPATH. Great conference and met lovely people.

On the return my wife had demanded I buy a product called Krispy Kream Do-nuts that were sold in Sydney airport but not in Adelaide. Sydney would be our first international port entry.

In the Bangkok lounge  we all sat around as Aussies do and had a laugh and I told them to make sure I did not forget my Krispy Kream Donuts.

We arrived in Sydney and queued up for entry control and off course we were all separated, as I got close to control a shout came up " Cindy, don't forget the Krispy Kream Donuts".

The closer I got another friend would shout the same thing out - and people started to laugh. Until I was the first person in front of the woman checking the papers. One final shout of "Cindy" and I broke "Yes?" "Don't forget the Krispy Kream Donuts" I just laughed, there was a security guard with his machine gun with a big grin and I approached the woman and she looked at me and said. "Same hair style, same ear rings, new passport and whatever you do. Don't forget the Krispy Kream Donuts!" "Welcome home honey"

Such is Australia

A great story with great donuts 🍩 too 😋, and there I was thinking passport control staff were incapable of humor.

if your dual citizenship is US (Which you mentioned) DO IT NOW!  After January 20th all bets are off on the processes/procedures to change it.  Apparently now it's straight forward.

Sadly, I'm going to have to chance it, I won't be full-time until April at the earliest and haven't yet started any other doc' changes.
