There are days where i wish this forum had a "like" button :-) Way to go National Geographic!

I should just buy a box and use it as "coming out gift" :-)

Haha totally agree with Sarah and very cool! What a courageous  young girl, very befitting that  it's a nature magazine. Seems like the world is slowly getting a better view of trans :)

Awesome! I tweeted both the National Geographic link and the link to a new non-binary TV star:

"Billions" will make TV history with gender non-conforming star and role https://t.co/V2EHTX3tc3 via @huffpostqueer

Drat.  Now, when I come out, everyone is going to think that I was brainwashed by National Geographic.  :)

Seriously, it is good to see a major magazine take on this subject.  It is going to be an interesting read.  I might have to hang on to that issue in case anyone needs some 'splaining down the road.

I've tweeted links to that cover picture a couple of times already, but more is better, so I tweeted this one as well!

Kathy..your remark reminded me of when I got a Border Collie puppy in 1974. I came up with a unique name..the name of a childhood friend in Haiti, whose name I'd always liked..Benji.

That was just before the famous movie "Benji" came out..and suddenly, every time I'd tell friends my dog's name, they'd say, "Oh! You named it after the dog in the movie!"

Grrrrrrr....

I think we're just on the brink of a massive gender revolution...

Today, 1 in 20 people identifies as gay. Although some even say 1 in 10. 50 years ago, you could not even openly discuss it. Being born trans was estimated as 1 in 10.000 chance a few years ago. Right now, I hear figures around 1 in 3000. And this number keeps on declining.

It's time to heal. People need to heal.

1977: Born.
2009: HRT
2012: RLE
2014: SRS
2016: FFS
2017: rejoicing

focus on the positive, focus on solutions.

I think it is awesome, this should have been happening years ago!

I am not normally a National Geographic reader but under this circumstance I went out today and bought this issue. I am very excited at our revolution and how it is making history. My friend and I sat in Barnes and Noble and read it halfway through before buying. This will be a keepsake for me because it's about educating those who don't understand us.

I read an article online that said people are threatening to cancel their subscriptions to National Geographic because of this publication.

Did anyone hear of this officially called a revolution before this issue of National Geographic was published?

It seems we have a different cover in Canada for that same issue...ours shows 7 different people across the spectrum.  Trans/Bi-gender/intersex/androgynous/male/female etc

I'm in the USA and my cover is the same as yours. I think it's just random.

National Geographic films teenager undergoing gender surgery

http://www.pinknews.co.uk/2017/01/04/national-geographic-films-teenager-undergoing-gender-surgery/

Pink News/By Nick Duffy 4th January 2017, 1:11 PM

"A video recorded for National Geographic captures the process of a teenager undergoing gender surgery.
The clip features Massachusetts teen Emmie Smith, 17, explaining her decision to undergo the procedure, and preparing for the surgery.

Smith – who is taking a gap year to help transition before starting college – explains that she allowed cameras in because she wanted to demystify the surgical process.
She said: "I think people are fascinated by gender reassignment surgery. They're insatiably curious about it – but they also don't know how to have a conversation about it. "

Well worth watching!  Very positive spin!  I hope lots of people see this.

A very positive spin. I've seen other more graphic operations on YouTube in the past with the prolific posters, some that were on this forum but they went away or changed their sites that rarely mentioned their transgender status. They have moved on. National Geo has done a lot of good programs in other areas lately.
