Shirley/Adam

My birth name is Shirley, but I feel more like an Adam. Lately I've felt I've lost my gender identity. I don't feel like I belong to either gender, but I tend to lean toward the more masculine side. Currently I'm trying to find myself and here is the reason I chose Adam:

A for Angel since I believe in angels and angels are genderless
D for Death of the old labels I had placed on me
A for autumn, my favorite season
M for the more masculine side that I've always had

I realized that Adam without the M is Ada which is how I feel sometimes I feel a cross between both male and female. Also the letter A is the first letter in the alphabet and it's about starting again, coming in first instead of letting myself fall behind.

Welcome! I am a new member myself and have found this site to be an absolute treasure trove of information.By the way, I adore how you came up with the name Adam. Once again, welcome to Susan's Place!

Adam,

Welcome to the site.

Thanks for sharing what is often hard to say. There is a lot of info here. Try not to agonize too much and just search and experiment. We have a group of what are listed here as non-binary here. There are so many stops along the gender spectrum.

Have you seen a therapist at all? I think that is a very helpful step in approaching the maze that makes up the non-traditional gender identity. If you can find a "gender therapist" so much the better. Often you can find them through a LGBTQ center, if you are at a loss.

I wish you love, acceptance and a smooth journey of discovery.

I also want to share some links with you. They are mostly welcome information and the rules that govern the site. If you have not had a chance to look through them, please take a moment to:

Thanks for all your comments. Some of them were funny and made me laugh. I am still trying to understand who I am so I haven't seen a gender therapist although I would like suggestions.
