I've lived my whole life with long hair and don't really know how I'd live without it. I'm only a month into T though so long hair is definitely not helping me pass. It is helping me not have to come out to a lot of people just yet at least.

Do any of you have long hair and how do you wear it so you pass?

Long hair is going to be tough to work with until T redistributes some of your facial fat or your grow facial hair, or both. I honestly don't think many guys early on T pass with anything but a very short haircut. Androgyny seems to be as far as most people get without a short haircut. But, if you aren't out to people and aren't ready to come out perhaps not cutting it is for the best. Though T tends to work quickly enough that you may be forced out soon anyway.

Here are some places to look for tips:

Hi Jagfel, welcome to Susan's Place! You can do long hair as a dude, but the first thing I did to look more feminine was grow my hair out. As long as you know you're facing an uphill battle and you're strong enough for it, stay your course! See you around the site!

Hugs, Devlyn

Thank you.

I think I'm going to go the androgyny route for now, maybe try a manbun once I feel a bit more comfortable.

My hair is waist length. I cut off a foot of it a few years back. It never did grow out again. If you like it long, then keep it. I know a number of guys with long hair, just usually not as long as mine. I usually do ponytail  or braids.

Absolutely! I have multiple personalities from Dissociative Identity Disorder and the primary alter in my System is a guy. I keep my hair shoulder length. He doesn't even wear a beard and nobody ever confuses him for a girl.

Primary doesn't have a beard and always wear his hair down. Alot of guys with shoulder length hair wear it that way here in the South USA. They only wear pony tails if they are working or if there hair is past their shoulders. When I was growing up in the 1970's guys with long hair got layers and used alot of styling products. That's more of a girl thing now. Guys with long hair seem to go for a rough unkept manly look.

Primary used to cut his flattop and still cuts it now that it is long. It is a very simple style. A straight line along the neck with the side pieces angled up to the chin in front of the ears. He always lets it air dry, brushes it straight back and lets it fall wherever it wants. I like to straighten my hair and wear a side part with the pieces over my ear. The length and cut works great for us both!

Mine isn't short, but not long either. I don't know... 6 inches? Not styling it too carefully helps, a slightly more "unkempt" style rather than something that looks like you were meticulously styling it helps. I know a few guys with this length hair including my step dad and they all do this. Guys with longer hair tend to have to look after it more carefully and/or tie it back. I don't want it to be long enough to collect knots but I've found myself not wanting to cut it short just to "help" passing. I want T to do its job and if I can do it with this mop then I know it'll be ok. I have several Scandinavian friends who all have perfect long hair, but they're all rocking some facial hair and long hair's not unusual there.

I think you'll probably find when your voice starts getting into male territory the hair won't matter so much. I've seen cis women being mistaken for men on YT videos simply because they happened to have a deep or androgynous voice and weren't wearing any makeup. People hear the voice and assume male if it's deep enough, whatever the person looks like at the time. Once the face fat starts disappearing and any facial hair comes in you'll be fine.

I think the most important thing is that you're happy/comfortable with the way you present yourself; instead of obsessing over articles which tell trans men you need certain hair styles in order to 'pass'. In 7/8 months you should start looking very masculine anyway; which isn't a long a wait as it sounds.
They/them pronouns preferred.
