Someone recently told me that they had been having hot flashes quite a lot while on testosterone. I had never been told by anyone that hot flashes could be a side effect of testosterone, but I have been having hot flashes a lot recently ( I've been in T for a month). Has anyone else experienced this, and do you know when it will end? It is very frustrating :/

I had them for the first four months or so. It just has to do with hormonal fluctuations and your body adjusting to running on a different primary sex hormone. I've never heard of it being a permanent situation.

Even though I don't get 'hot flashes' anymore, I definitely run hotter than I ever did before; I'm comfortable in shorts until it gets to be below 10 degrees. A higher RBC count and thicker skin can both be thanked for that.

I'm not even sure what a hot flash is. What is it exactly and what does it feel like?

It's been so long, but I remember a period that lasted about two weeks whereby I'd wake up in the middle of the night, sweating like crazy. I had terrible insomnia as well. At the time I was Estrace, spiro and progesterone.
Might have been year two...but have not had that experience since.

It is absolutely a side effect of testosterone use in people who naturally produce estrogen. By taking testosterone you are chemically inducing menopause, which hot flashes are a symptom of.

Yeah had them for the first 2 or 3 months. I felt sweaty and hot all the time. It being winter it was actually much appreciated :D. And I definitely run at a higher temperature now. I no longer shiver when I'm out in the cold.

I had them as well, initially while my body was adjusting. As Max said, you are essentially chemically inducing menopause and that is a side effect of menopause. Once your body adjusts and your levels settle in, it should subside. I think mine only lasted a month or two.

Yup! Totally had that in my 3rd week. Week 3 was when I got a HUGE rush of hot flashes, sweatyness, greasyness, sex drive increase, energy. It was like my body was REALLY hit hard from the newly built up T. Now it's all more balanced. However, I don't really get cold outside anymore which is super nice in a MA winter.

I can't sleep with the same amount of covers on anymore as it's just too hot. It's a problem because unless something is covering me I usually find it hard to sleep and my habit is to wrap up totally in whatever it is. Habit from years of being cold, I guess.

I suppose my body temperature has increased then.

Yeah I've been waiting for myself to get bonechiling cold from the winter weather but it just hasn't hit me yet. Maybe it never will 😈

I don't think I ever had a hot flash. I was on depoprovera before T though.

LOL I have actually noticed a diminishing of them since I started T. Then again I was well into early menapause when I started transitioning. Shark week was every 3 month, then every 2 weeks, then two months for 2 weeks. Thank god all that ->-bleeped-<- seems to be done n over. Mind you I probably just jinxed myself
