I guess I am a little late doing this (I've been on hormones for eight months now) or a lot (I feel like this should have happened when I was five or six years old).

I remember girls in elementary school talking about getting their ears pierced and me just sitting there feeling left out.

We (my wife and I) did it as part of a day out, which started with a trip to a local mall.   I scored some MAC lipstick, Estee Lauder foundation, some jeggings from American Eagle, panties from Victoria's Secret, and T-shirts from Aeropostale.  My wife got some cosmetics and a nice flat iron for her hair. Then we had cheese steak sandwiches for lunch.

Then we went to a professional piercing parlor located next door to a tattoo parlor.   The process hurt far less than I expected it to.   It cost me forty dollars including the stud earrings (blue zirconia, my birthstone) plus a five dollar tip for the piercer.

I felt a deep seated peace and a sense of satisfaction, as if another long lost piece of myself was finally recovered and in place.

All in all, a really good day.

For many of us having or ears pierced is a really big step. I'm not sure why but it was for me!!

Now comes the fun part...I got two in each ear and have fun with earing combinations...best part...no matter where you go they are always on sale in some form or another, a pair with a little length feel nice, a little weird to start with but a nice weird.

Congratulations!  I know that getting my ears pierced was huge.  Now I can look in the mirror and actually see myself as a girl.  It's amazing what a pair of simple silver studs can do to one's appearance.

Hey Carly

It's quite remarkable how important this step is for so many of us.  Of course we could have got a stud or two earlier in our lives in our "wrong" gender, but it just has so much more significant when we're attaching it to the way forward in our real gender!

Congrats, now onto your next set of challenges!

Hugs

Congratulations!!! It took me a full 10 months on HRT to get mine done and it was huge moment for me too. Enjoy it and don't get as crazy as me with buying earrings....lol

Definite congrats to you all in this "right of passage" into our real selves. I actually pierced mine this past Wednesday/Thursday. I did it myself with little pain, just some alcohol and little numbing gel and a sewing needle.
Painted my toenails right after....
I felt pretty.

Fantastic.  For some of us this is/was a huge step.  For me, two days later I was 100% convinced I'm doing the right thing.  The self-image with pierced ears was.... like being wrapped in a warm blanket on a cool winter's day.

Earrings can make a big difference to appearance and femininity for sure. I got ears pierced once when I was a kid, I remember the difference being pretty shocking, between looking more plain and not.
