Fed up with "social" media

It's easy to get fed up with social media these days. I spend a lot of time on facebook, mostly when I'm bored. But it seems to be about 80% political this or that, and I'm getting tired of it. Twitter is ok from time to time, I post very rarely, and scroll through a few pages here and there. I like Instagram the most, because I enjoy looking at pictures.  I have two accounts everywhere now, one as my male self and the one as Crystal. The second one is purely for communicating with others who are going through similar problems as I am, but I feel that every Facebook page labeled Trans anything is filled with people looking to hook up, so I stopped paying attention, then I had to eventually set my page to private because I would keep getting messenger notifications from every other perverted fetish seeker out there.

Back to Instagram, my male page, I follow a lot of celebrities that I admire, mostly actresses that I crush on a little, and then of course my normal group of friends. My secondary FB follows random other MtF members, I can see how a lot of these girls have progressed, especially on "throwback Thursday" when a lot of them post before and after shots. It gives me hope that if I end up choosing to fully transition, I might one day look the way I see myself in the minds eye.

I just unfollowed anyone who posts political memes, it was almost everyone on my Facebook. They're still on the friends list, but I don't see their posts. Now my Facebook is back to normal, or as my boss puts it: "All cat pictures and viral videos of a guy diving into a cup."  The way Facebook ought to be!

I unfollowed those who I disagree with. Some of the posts I do find funny, and I'll admit that I'm guilty of posting a few. But I'm very cautious of trying to only post those political things that are true. If I see something saying that "Politician A said this," I will usually run a quick search to make sure that it really happened before I share. I got very annoyed with a close friend during the election cycle for sharing every other nonsense post about the candidate who she did not support, because most of those posts have long been proven as false.

That being said, it's a pain in the ass trying to be politically neutral. I don't want to offend anybody here. I have to do the same thing at work on a regular basis because I know that a few of my coworkers are of different opinion then I am.

The whole problem with the internet is the way everybody that posts about anything posts with an air of assumed authority.

I'm converting an old school bus into a motorhome in order to be able to find freedom. I joined a few groups here and there. Whenever I raise a question I get the most nonsensical answers and end up having to work the answer out on my own. Then I post the real solution and end up getting dropped from the group for introducing reality to the fantasy.

If I believed the solutions given in those online groups, I'd be in a very sad place right now. Most of those groups were on Facebook.

It's all very reminiscent of my day job. I drive schoolbusses. Today I was working as an aide while somebody else drove for a change. Two kids were talking. Neither is really literate and they're just about to leave highschool. Their conversation was full of hate and vengeance - just like the nastiness that goes on on Facebook etc.

At the moment I gather a lot of people are Trump bashing. Before that they were Clinton bashing. I don't think the first year of any president is free from the chattering classes posting hate online. I'm so glad not to use Facebook.

I've gotten so sick of the drama on facebook and I'm actually going to abandon it and go back to ranting and posting my own site using my own system...

A few reasons, but not only:
• Vapid bickering
• Deep as a puddle on a hill
• No real control over my own information
• Notifcation nagging
• Never remember settings
• Backwoods & archaic "image gallery"
• Hollywood constantly being crammed down my throat

I will keep facebook for the simple fact that I did reconnect with old friends and will use it in a highly limited capacity. I only have REAL friends and some family on my facebook "friends" (total under 40) and I'm sure that number will change after I come out and make my announcement, which I will do on facebook. I wil create a "new" facebook account for my transition and if it gets deleted, they can keep it.

I have also been looked at strangely by other people when they ask if I have a facebook profile "yes, but i don't use it. The whole thing sucks. I use my own." The only thing I really do on facebook is complain about how facebook is messed up or when something is in the news I want to address.
