I have retracting syringes to inject my T with and I was just wondering if I should dispose of them in a sharps container or if it is ok to just throw them away because the needle retracts? The needle is completely inside of the syringe once you retract it and you can't get it out unless you really try. Just wondering because I want to be safe thanks

I put the whole thing into a sharps container. There have been very rare occasions where I found a little bit of blood in the tube. Better to be safe I suppose.

There's nothing to protect the syringe if you were to just toss it in the trash. If it breaks, pokes through the bag, and stabs the garbage man - he or she is going to have a really bad day because they don't know what they might have been exposed to.

Even if all you've got laying around is a plastic soda bottle to toss it in and re-cap, that would be loads better than just placing it in the trash.

Depending on your state it has regulations on how to deal with sharps. Ohio for example it is acceptable to put all the sharps in a plastic container and then tape it shut and put it in the trash. Other states may require the sharps to go to designated places.
