I'm a member of my local YMCA and a good friend of mine works there.  About a week ago I stopped in my way out to chat about life, nothing specific.

She knows I'm transitioning but was keeping my secret because last I talked to her about it, it was on a need to know basis

Anyway, after I left, a co-worker asked her how long I had been transitioning.  She didn't know what to say and finally broke down and said yes, but that she didn't know how long.

She was all nervous telling me which I quickly put to rest.

I just thought it was funny.  But that is the first person I know of that flat out guessed and said anything.

Interesting, I personally wish people would ask me questions about being transgender. I'd love to educate others if they have questions. Feeling distant and foreign to others is far worse to me than being asked some honest questions.

From my experience, nobody talked to me directly. They always asked my friends what is going on with me. I gave my friends the Ok to talk about what was happening.

Heck, even now that I've transitioned my friends are the ones getting questions, but now they are like, "who is your pretty friend?" and "what ever happened to [my old name]? I saw this women who looks a lot like him."

That is a great story.  I've told my friends, family and wife that if they're asked directly about it, they don't need to hide it or feel guilty about "outing" me.  I don't want people feeling like my coming out of the closet has put them in one. Glad you were able to comfort your friend that her response was ok, thanks for sharing!!
