I'm planning surgery with Chettawut in August-September time this year, and well, I rarely see any one ever mention the travel insurance aspect of this.

I'm in the UK. Does anyone know who I can turn to too get insurance for this? All I seem to find is companies offering travel insurance for pre-existing medical conditions, and not for people travelling for surgery.

Any help?

Don't bother the policies are  written in a way to make using them require very limited situations and GRS would not meet them.

I looked at it a couple of years ago and there is a US insurer that covers overseas medical procedures but it was very expensive and I didn't get to the fine print at all.  Can't remember the name any more and they could have been any old rip off.

When I told my Psychiatrist I was going to Chett and asked for his letter, his only question was to ask what my Australian medical insurance policy was like just in case something went wrong and I was unable or unwilling to travel back to Thailand.

As Susan said, it isn't something you will get cover for.  Check the revision policy and the quality of the surgeon you are going to and of course bear your own health in mind.  If you feel the risks are too high, go for less risky option.

I read over my policy and while it will not cover surgeries performed overseas like SRS, it does cover emergency care in foreign countries. I am going to Serbia later this month for my bottom surgery. Insurance won't pay for that. But if I were to break an ankle over there or need a course of antibiotics from an infection I pick up there, insurance would pay for those things.

Every policy is different though, and I think policies like mine are the exception and not the norm. So if something like that is what you're concerned about (ie. emergency care abroad and not SRS coverage), I would check your existing policies first. I also think there are supplemental policies out there that you could purchase if yours doesn't include emergency care.

I would also say though, price-wise, the cost of these plans is very expensive. It may just be cheaper to pay out of pocket directly to the hospital/doctor that treats you than to pay for a plan.

I've been using GeoBlue for many years whenever I travel international. My company buys a 1 year policy for $200 - $300 that covers any number of trips for the year, and you can get a single use policy for about $90. It won't cover your SRS (thats not what travel insurance is for) but it will cover emergency medical treatment while your traveling and if necessary it will cover the cost of evacuating you to your home country for treatment.

A coworker had to use this when traveling in Mexico. He was in the hospital for a couple of days. It was accepted with no problem and covered everything.
