How to celebrate "Transgender Day of Visibility"?

I ran across mention of the "Transgender Day of Visibility," which is supposed to be March 31.  I found a number of websites talking about how wonderful an idea it was and how we should all do something, but I don't see exactly what we're supposed to do.

I mean, I'm out pretty much everywhere I go (I don't pass very well, though nobody's thrown me out of the ladies' room -- yet.)  All the people I work with (100+ people) had it formally announced to them, so I'm visible to them, and I assume that with that many people knowing, the word's gotten around to the rest of the people on my floor.  The people in my town and at my church have seen my gradual evolution.  I'm not sure how I could be any more visible to any of them.

Is there something special I should be doing that day?  Make a blue/pink/white dress to wear on that day?  (It's a Friday, so I'd normally be working from home.)  I'm afraid I'm a pretty boring person, so I don't think I could get on TV, not that I'd want to.  Should I be participating in a "hands across America" thing?  I haven't even seen a TDoV button to wear.

Inquiring minds want to know.

Cute idea, but I'm afraid my body dysphoria (plus the fact that I'm pre-op) would make that a pretty awful experience.

Thanks, but I think I'll pass (even though I don't.)

Well I didn't realize it until you brought this up but I'll be going to my initial HRT appointment that day.  I do plan to go fully authentic and therefore visible (partially because I can't imagine sitting in the OB/GYN waiting room and getting called in while presenting as male). :)  Perhaps after my appointment I should head out and grab lunch somewhere maybe do some shopping too.  Oh boy, the options are endless but I'll definitely be doing my part now that I know that is going on that day.  Now I gotta see if I can find someone that wants to go with me, really make this fun :)

I just want to add that I'm visible 365 days a year. When someone talks to me there is no question in their mind that I don't fit into either one of the boxes they're used to putting people in!

Hmm. Interesting. Would it be inappropriate to take advantage of the day to make yourself visible by publicly coming out say, over Facebook? :)

My brother did that a bit different. He painted a green stripe down the middle of 5th avenue in Scottsdale on St Patrick's day. Long funny story but in the end he ended up in jail for the act. The law just doesn't have a sense of humor.

I don't fit into those boxes. And, I don't care. All I know it's not going to put me in a box 6 feet under. I lost a college friend to suicide and I still don't get that. I just feel so good about the progress I have made and I'm defiant in my belief that it's what I feel that is important, not someone else. It's about the smile I get when I look in the mirror. If someone else doesn't like what I present? Screw them, I don't care. We should not lose one more sister because she feels unaccepted or harassed.

To the OP, a TD day of visibility? I would love that. Would love to see people hiding come out. I know personally it has been so empowering to me to be the girl I know I am. I love it! I know I'm not the prettiest girl, but I'm so cool with that it makes me even more confident.

As far as streaking Dev, I would personally have no problem with that, I do have a nice girly figure, though that is sorta a passe 80s thing.  8)

I love dresses!!

Not at all. I have an acquaintance who did that last year on the Transgender Day of Remembrance. I wish I was at a point I could do a public coming out that way, but not yet.  Perhaps by November I'll be ready.

Are you seriously considering doing that??

I am considering it! I want to be able to start experimenting and moving towards transitioning without feeling ashamed because of the façade the people close to me expect me to put on.

Why are these days just once a year?

I keep pushing to make myself more visible every day, though am still read as a guy even when wearing makeup and all women's clothes...I may make it a point to push it even harder on March 31...if I can remember...

Ha! Love it  ;D

Not in British weather, though. Although I suppose that would give us pre-op transguys a good reason for what's going on downstairs!

For many trans people it can be a date to work towards, if you're not already visible, or a day to challenge yourself if you are. It may seem tough at first but at least you'll know you're not alone on that day. A bit like quit smoking day I suppose, a date to start a change in your life.

Okay okay So I'm a little slow. truth be told I had my suspicions before but didn't think it wise to call out an admin...

40 day?  Has it really been that long?  I won't be able to claim newbie status for very much longer at this rate. :-(
