I live in Louisiana, my question is will Medicaid pay for srs if I show proof that I was diagnosed by a psychiatrist (saw her for 5 years before starting hormones) and show proof from my endocrinologist that I'm on hormones and how long I've been on them? They currently are paying for my hormones and I'm really wanting the surgery, but I don't have the money.

I've been living full time for 6 years too, idk if that will make a difference in their decision.

I am doing not sure about Louisiana, but I know here in Florida it will. From what I can tell, they follow the WPATH regulations. I would say the best thing to do is just a few Google searches (I found out by accident by looking for Dr's around FL).

In Colorado the most trans-friendly Medicaid clinic in the state in the state's most liberal bastion (Denver) is trying to do it.  They still haven't gotten federal approval and with the political situation in Washington DC I kind of doubt they ever will.  In Louisiana? My guess is no.

I'm surprised. Florida, a red state, hasn't even approved Medicaid expansion.

Also, President Trump is talking about ending Medicaid expansion to the states in 2018 to bring more conservatives on board for his big Affordable Care Act repeal effort.  This could be the last year for Medicaid expansion.  It looks pretty bleak.

yea, but I'm only a Cashier, the only full time position they ever have open occasionally is lumber and head cashier (which I can do because every week my rating is the highest), but as of right now head cashier is out of the question since all the positions are filled.

I did some digging around in search engines and am not coming up with any good info (no big surprise with government benefits)

That said, are you on an ACA exchange plan now?  Or does it get run through the state medicaid in LA?  Or neither?  You might be able to get a plan on the ACA exchange that would get you these benefits.  Not cheap but certainly cheaper than coughing up SRS money out of pocket.
