Trump's Win Sparks Surge in Calls to LGBT Crisis Hotlines

http://www.advocate.com/transgender/2016/11/11/trumps-win-sparks-surge-calls-lgbt-crisis-hotlines

The Advocate/By Daniel Reynolds November 11 2016 7:16 PM EST

"The Trans Lifeline confirmed over 300 calls in the first 24 hours. The support resource, which can be reached at (877) 565-8860 in the United States, has even launched a donation campaign so it can hire more staffers to handle the volume."

I was more worried about a Hillary presidency along with her coziness to groups of people who hate us.. I voted for Trump along with thousands of other trans folks because of this.

Hi Cheryl!

I was hoping he'd be non-hostile toward us , but his transition team isn't looking good. It now appears we will be losing the executive orders that enable us to change the gender marker on US passports and Social Security without surgery and psychiatric approvals. For those of us who are out and travel this makes life harder.

Those are on the list to be struck.

I was reading a news arrive where Donald Trump wasn't going to take anything away from the trans community and will enforce existing law. He remembers that alot of lbgtq voted for him.

I suppose we can all just quietly wait and see.  Once we know for sure which executive orders have been struck, and what administrative changes have been made, we will know what impact this has on our community.

We can always act after the fact.  Of course, that does provide the excuse that "Hey, nobody objected to the changes at the time!"

Those of us who are out and open are at the most risk.  This might be a good period for folks in stealth or hiding to remain so for a while.

I personally hope and pray for America and Trump proves to be an outstanding president ,the thing is that right at this moment your walking on a nature path and all of a sudden  a cougar appears in front of you .

Honestly, if I lose my gender marker change, have to revert to my birth name, etc. I won't be able to deal with that.

You are permitted to use any name you wish as long as it's not for fraudulent purposes. I was unable to alter my gender marker or name until I was post surgical but in that time I was able to avoid using my male name other than when I needed to for financial reasons. Those were the days before much plastic and I didn't have a credit card so it was checks for bill payment and cash for everyday life. Yes, it might be a little different but it's doable with a few adjustments. That's also why I had a passing letter in my purse at all times but I never needed to use it.

Well, that's not what worries me. What I am worried about is some executive order being signed. Then, I get letters from various departments in my state, the SSA, and the DMV saying that my name change, (Which has been on the books since 12/1/08), is being rescinded and therefore, I would have no choice but to revert to my birth name and former gender marker.

This idea is so depressing and so demoralizing that if it were to occur. I would more than likely commit suicide a short time after. I wouldn't even change anything, in the hopes that I could at least be buried under my legal name, rather than my birth name.

I really doubt they will issue an order that requires all existing paperwork to be undone. It might become more difficult to change the paper work until surgery but it would be a massive headache undoing years of paperwork.
