Next Friday I will be taking our Drag beetle to a show, now on the same day its Red Nose day for Comic Relief . Fund raising for good causes , lots of people doing challenges to raise £££s . Thing is if I go as Davina and say its sponsored gender swop  can I get away with it, will do a collection anyway. This year its helping the homeless. £hr plus journey to London  and know I will have to stop at services as my bladder wont last that long, disabled toilet then!!

That's a tough one for me.
Personally, I wouldn't want to turn my identity into a farce. I know it isn't for you personally (that's not what I'm saying), but other people are going to perceive it that way given the context. I don't think I could endure that even for charity's sake.
The real question is this: Are you prepared to be chuckled at (because people are going to think you're in on 'the joke') and put on display for something you inwardly take seriously?

This is going to sound like a Doggy Downer, but I suggest you not do it.  I went enfem for Halloween and I'll never live it down. It may be the one thing that will be the ultimate reason for a divorce.

Beyond that it showed me that I was extremely comfortable that way.  So on one hand a total disaster, on the other reaferrming.

Unless you are feeling very secure in being Davina you may have a fairly hard time I suspect...and I don't mean people with give you a hard time but you will be the "the Joker" and you gender will not be treated with any respect because people may not see you as being Trans but someone "playing dress up for a cause" who is not to be taken seriously at their gender portrayal. For me I think that would hurt.

Of course you can! If anything, Friday is the perfect time to do it.

It's actually pretty common in the UK to see what appears to be men cross-dressing in public; it happens every single weekend in every major city, thanks to stag dos! It's also very common with charity events like Red Nose Day. People are going to react like it's all in good fun. They won't realise that this is something serious to you, so it's sort of like going stealth: you could test your femme mode in public without the public realising that that's what you're doing. It's a good way to gauge people's reactions to you en femme, and you might learn some useful things.

So in the context of the show, you could say you're doing drag in a drag Beetle and use it as an angle with which to raise money. This is entirely appropriate in British culture, and you'd get a positive response. And if anyone challenges you (e.g. in the services) you can just say you're doing drag in a drag car for Red Nose Day; would they like to donate? and any awkwardness would be defused.

Seriously, in the UK this would be a brilliant way to take Davina out for a spin (literally!) in public and it's probably one of the few times in the year when anything goes, so you'd be able to do it with minimal hassle. Do be aware though that British people tend to think it's hilarious to see someone they think is a man in a dress apparently having a laugh; they think they're in on a joke. So as long as you're able to not take that personally, you'll be fine.

And well done you for doing this: it's wonderful of you to raise money for the homeless.

Yeah, my first public event was a big Halloween event, where I only saw one person I knew besides my wife. So I could be as serious as I wanted, smile at the people who thought it was a joke, and try it out for an evening. It was a great opening for me, but you need to be Ok with the smiles you'll get.

yes FTM , if I have the red nose on and have a collection box I don't expect any hassle and it will give me some experience to gauge reac tions for when I do come out as planed in November. Emailed the show organisers and she replied "haha that will be fun"

Well I did and it proved to me that I need to come out, it just felt natural. Was stuck in heavy traffic , 20mins to do 6 miles!! and kept my temper. Only raised £10 but its a cash less society now (or that's a good excuse) . The best double take followed by a stare was at a services when I stopped for a wee, a builder type person of course!! Had good compliments from the girls on reception and parking , only saw one person I knew and they didn't recognise me for a while. I know having Red Nose Day acted as a buffer with my nose and deally boppers on but noticed it took a second look for most to realize. so promising

Isn't that the best feeling -- that it just felt natural! That says it right there.
