So I want to start a diet that's E-heavy to boost my HRT. Would this be recommended? And if so, what foods should I scarf down and/or avoid? I hear chicken and beef are good sources of E, which is why one of my FtM friends is a pescetarian (spelling?). I've also heard soy and flax seeds are good sources too.

Hello! I'm assuming your are currently undergoing HRT and taking Estrogen? I'm not an expert but from what I've read from other people who have talked about the subject it seems that it's not a good idea to purposely eat lots of "estrogen rich" foods if ones taking prescription estrogen as those food sources can actually bind to the receptors and actually hurt overall femiziation rendering the medicine less effective. Any prescription Estrogen will be much more effective then anything found in food source though of course I'm not a doctor and I could be wrong but based off what I can remember on this subject it isn't advised.

I'm not sure if it's recommended, but I tend to agree with Bianca. I have read that grapefruit and extra vitamin C enhances the effects of estrogen. You might do some further research on it.

All the best,

Phytoestrogens found in foods are very weak relative to estradiol (as much as 1,000) and can compete with estradiol for receptors, hence blocking estradiol from exerting the effects we so desire for.

Grapefruit can indeed affect estrogen, especially when taken orally, as it inhibits enzymes that metabolize estradiol. As a result, estradiol and estrone concentrations will increase. Before deciding to consume grapefruit, check with your doctor as this can also interact with other medications and be dangerous. Vitamin C, I had also read, can increase estrogen concentrations, but I'm not aware of how it does that. I think this was noted with birth control pills.
