Hello everybody!

Two weeks ago I have sent all the paper work to Dr. Brassard for my top surgery. Now I am wondering -- did anybody have any top surgery done by Dr. Brassard in Montreal?   And if yes, do you know how long it takes from when you sent them all the documents (letters from psychologist and doctor etc), to when you have the surgery?
They told me it takes a few weeks to open a file after they received my documents, but they couldn't tell exactly. And they also couldn't tell me exactly how long it would take until I have my surgery.
Does anybody have any experience with this?

I'm just looking so much forward to be free.

Welcome to Susan's Place. I am not that familiar with Brassard so I can't answer your question however I think I have noted a problem. Terminology is sometimes incorrectly used on this site but I am assuming that you are FTM. As such, I will put this tread where you will get more responses. If I have it wrong, let me know in this tread and I will correct the issue.

We issue to all new members the following links so you will best be able to use the web site.

Thank you very much Dena, I am indeed FTM. In which tread are you going to put my post?

You are in FTM top surgery. One thing you can do is click on the link I gave you and then put "Brassard" in the search box in the upper right hand corner of the screen. You will currently get 8 results returned including your post. That should get you started until somebody else posts in your thread.

i had my top surgey with dr. brassard. i went through CAMH though to get my top surgery (idk if you are too but this is my experience). i had my top surgery appointment for CAMH to see if i got approved in the summer of 2014 and they told me it would take 6 weeks to find out if i got approved or not. i found out i got accepted for top surgery in sept 2014, they (CAMH) sent the letters to the clinic and i got my letter of approval from the ministry in about a month from the date i got my acceptance so october 2014 and when i got that letter, i could contact the clinic to get my top surgery process started. so i contacted them (the clinic) in october 2014, and they (the clinic) sent me a package by email that i had to fill out (pics of my chest, some sheets to fill out about medical history, blood work, etc) and that was also done in october. the clinic told me it would take about a week to get contacted from the surgeon to make a date (i called them a week after i sent the info by email that they needed). the clinic sent me an email in november but i did not receive the email so i emailed them about a week after the date i should have gotten the call/email and they gave me a date for my surgery. my surgery was in march 2015.

if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask. the whole thing was pretty painless in terms of the process (at least for me).

Thank you vey much for sharing your experiences. I didn't go through CAMH. I contacted the surgeon/clinic directly. They send me a list of required documents, like letters from psychologists, and a letter from my doctor that says I'm healthy for surgery. I have sent that back to the surgeon/clinic three weeks ago. I called them two weeks ago to ask them if they received my email with my documents. They said that they couldn't tell because hey receive so many, but they said that if they did it can take a few weeks to open my file. I still haven't heard from them, so I wonder what they mean with 'a few weeks'. It just makes me anxious to not know when I will hear back from them. I start to worry then if they didn't receive my email or something and that I'm waiting for nothing. I think I'll email them this coming week (I just don;t want to come across as too nagging).

honestly, i would keep bugging them about it. i find emailing them was an easy way to contact them (that is how i contacted them and sent all my info and you did too apparently). it can take awhile and i totally get it too. what province do you live in? dr. brassard isn't the only surgeon that does top surgery (i actually had mine done from dr. belanger (sp?)) and because he does it because of CAMH too, it could take awhile. just keep asking them every few weeks. it only took me a week to get my date as i said.

Thank you, I just heard back from the surgeon yesterday, but a few documents were missing which I have to send them now. The mail from them also said that Dr. Belanger. One of the documents/form, which has to be filled out by my physician, is a Health Status Information Form, about mental health also etc. There's this question in it: Medical diagnosis referring to an active mental health problem
Did your doctor also have to fill this out for you?
My family doctor has only seen me once. I just brought the form to his office and I hope he can fill it out. Forms like that worry me, because I'm autistic but I'm capable to make decisions for myself. I'm afraid they are going to use my autism as a reason for not having my mastectomy.

i did not have to fill that out but that is probably because i went through CAMH and had to do "real life experience" and have therapy, etc. before i could start my transition (testosterone and surgery). that way my whole thing got paid for by the government instead of me paying out of pocket. i had to fill out a "health questionnaire" which asked my medical history. maybe something about mental health was on it, but i do not remember.

Thank you very much.

This coming Wednesday I have an appointment with my doctor to fill out that form. I hope he has more experiences with it, because it's a very weird form. Those forms always make me nervous. I so need my mastectomy, and I'm just afraid that one tiny form will ruin my chance of getting my mastectomy.
