I'm joining the group of nervously excited folk about to have their first appointments. Got a gp appointment for next week with a doctor who lists transgender health as one of her interests, and a psychiatrist appointment in three weeks. The gp I'll have to fund myself as it's a private practice but my work covers up to 12 psych appointments a year so I should be fine with those.

My stomach is doing flip flops  :icon_yes:

It will be the first time I discuss my gender with another person face to face.

I have never been so nervous and excited at the same time and I turned up half an hour early and ended up doing sudokus in the waiting room. The GP appointment went far better than I had ever hoped and she was so on point with everything and super encouraging. I now have a referal to an endo and one to a psych clinic that the endo prefers for psych evaluations.

Just speaking face to face with someone about it felt so validating. It'stime to plan how I will tell my family :icon_question:

That's fantastic that it went well. I had my first therapy appointment last year and am due my first medical appointment in ten days. Fingers crossed.

An update! Had my second counselling session a couple of days ago and the clinical psych said she's confident she has all the info she needs to write my psych evaluation for the endocrinologist. Happy days! The endos here won't see clients for testosterone without one. I will see the psych in two weeks to go over the letter and touch base, and my actual endo appointment is in mid June.

I have a feeling the time will just fly by. So far it's been a pretty emotional roller coaster and I'm still hovering between feelings of nervous excitement and trepidation. I plan on coming out to my family sometime before the endo appointment and while I'm hopeful, I think my parents will take some time to come to a version of acceptance. I guess sooner will be better than later. Have a feeling my youngest sister already suspects the direction I'm heading in so it might be her I talk to first   :D

Work is something I will have to consider too since I don't plan on quitting my job any time soon. This will include a name change and both work gender change (also requesting male uniform shirts and new name badges) and Medicare gender change. Looks like May is going to be very busy  :o

Hi Tehuti,

Congratulations on taking these big bold steps to get what you want done. The outcomes have been good to read about and it sounds like you are well on your way. Keep it up.

Hugs,
   Jeanette
