When I was in high school, I wanted to do it so bad that I tried standing in front of one with my legs spread apart ... it didn't go so well.  Anyone else tried it before formally coming out?  successfully?

Had to. Women's toilets were often locked in train stations at night at my local but the mens' was open. Same thing happened at some of hangouts I had, such as this pool hall my ex worked at that was so often frequented by dudes the womens' was locked most of the time anyway and the stall was quite often "broken". You'd have to try and use the urinal whether you wanted to or not.

I don't use those ones anymore, and I don't often find myself using public toilets lately but if I have to I'll use the men's. It usually deserted round here.

I know that I come from the other side of the issue.  I never liked or felt comfortable using a urinal but did so because it was the accepted thing to do and the availability of stalls was usually limited.  After about 45 years, I decided to h*** with how it looked and what others might think, and tried using the stall and sitting.  I found it to be a more pleasant experience for me and never went back to using the urinal.

We could solve all of our public restroom problems and concerns with properly constructed multi-gender restrooms.

If you don't mind me asking, was this because you had to grapple with the boa constrictor, or because peeing standing is gendered masculine?  It is, in fact, possible to get a vagina to pee forwards, through this technique: http://web.archive.org/web/20030604104917/http://restrooms.org/standing.html , with no additional assistance of any kind of device, though I have not yet mastered it. 

I can honestly say I detest male restrooms. At work, both the toilets are gender neutral with a throne and a handbasin. Interestingly, the ladies prefer using the toilet allotted to men though when I have used the one allotted to women I have found no difference. The genetic ladies say the men's room just smells of pee. I like the ladies room better because there is no odor. I'd use it exclusively if I could get away with it without raising suspicion.

Most public toilets are gross, male and female. The only one I like using is my own.

People rag on about the mens but I've seen plenty of horror - if not worse - in the womens as well.
