Not as easy as I thought... Earrings

Does anyone else find pierced ears earrings a pain to get in?

I've had my piercings since 1/1/17 and I still find it a pain (literally!) To put earrings in.  It's rare that they go right in.  Lord help me if I would try without a mirror.

Anyone else?

Also they are still tender.  Not red or anything just sore at times and not easy to get earrings through the back hole.

 Hi Denise,
It will get easier the more you wear them. Not only will you become more proficient but the holes themselves will loosen some the more you wear earrings making inserting them easier.  Be patient and keep putting them cute earrings in.

We got our ears pierced on the same day!!!

That being said, I find the same problems. I'm hyper aware of the piercings and do find them sore towards the end of the day or when the earring is moved. (Especially when my dog is being a jerk and pawing or nuzzling my ears.)

I still struggle to put them in without a mirror but through practice with a mirror every morning to put them back in after not wearing them at night (I'm allergic to nickel and cheaper earrings bother me if worn 24/7) I can get them through in one go.
My trick was to put one finger from the opposite hand behind my lobe so I could feel what direction the piercing needed to go in to go through without making me sore.

I have a feeling my dog being a jerk has helped to stretch out the hole a little to make it easier.

Yeah same; it took a good few weeks for it to become painless to put earrings in. If you had them pierced with a piercing gun you're more likely to get more problems with them. There is lots of info on the internet as to why they're a bad idea.

do you take them out everyday? I wear mine always, when going to sleep, when taking a bath, every moment of my day I have them, my mom told me I shouldn't take 'em out because my ears would be sensitive and not being able to wear bigger earrings in the future.

It's been 10 days with earrings and my lobes don't hurt anymore even if I play with the earrings, I thing you shouldn't take 'em out for some time to get used to them.

You should only wear studs for the first six months and just twist them occasionally. So no hoops or danglies I'm afraid. Be patient it takes a while for them to heal properly.

When I had my ears pierced, about 25 years ago, I was told to always keep something in them for a few weeks.  I still always keep studs in.  Hopefully they've healed by now.

I have been curious about piercing my ears and what that would look like, and also any problems that I might have such as pain.  I hope that it gets more comfortable for you. Thank you for sharing this.

I got my ears pierced with a piercing gun.  I kept my piercing studs in for four months (they had suggested three).  But a week or two after I started taking them out at night, I wasn't able the find the hole for the left one.  I don't know if it had closed up or just gotten too small to use.

I went to a proper piercing studio and had a scary-looking dude covered in tatoos fix the holes.  He told me that the piercing guns don't make a clean hole.  They just bludgeon the posts of the studs through the lobes.  So you end up with a lot of scar tissue.  He used a tapered rod to open up the holes, and I haven't had problems since.

I have more difficulty seeing the holes in the mirror without my glasses than I do getting the posts through them.  I don't think I am ready to try without a mirror yet.

If this happened I would stick a stud through from the back side first, or use something with a thinner pin shaft than a stud to get the thing through.

I tended not to keep them in all the time though which meant over time it became increasingly difficult to do. After 10 years I figured they would never heal up so I could leave things out all the time. Turns out they can always heal back up if they want to. I can't get anything in there now. Completely healed.

Clean them periodically by dipping the studs in something antiseptic as well. That helps keep the holes open and clean.

Got mine done in September 16 at the mall with a gun.

Was a little hard to change them at first but at about five months or so it got to where I can change them mostly without looking in a mirror.  The hoops I  need a mirror to put in though.

They said to leave the starters in for a month and a post type overnight for 6 months. I had some trouble changing at one month so didn't try again for another month.  No problems now.  I  have never had them out for longer than it takes to put in a different pair.

No point in being curious.  Go get it done.

Any pain is short lived.  You'll probably want to get some antiseptic soap to clean them for the first few days.

I agree.  Nothing feminized my appearance in the mirror like wearing silver studs in my ears.

Mine were done with a needle at a piercing shop.  I was instructed to keep them in 24/7 for 3-6 months (never remove or swap), clean them daily for the first several weeks and move them around (hoops) regularly.  No pain at all and no complications.

So glad to hear someone had it properly done :). Although 3-6 months seems a bit extreme; 6 weeks being the general consensus which my piercer agreed with.

Good for you Davina.  Consider 2 holes on each side.

I pierced my ear lobes my self. Your ears will heal faster if you use at least 14 karrot gold
and keep them in for a few weeks us peroxide and cotton ball to clean them mine have never been infected or hurt. hope that helps
