Hey this is just for fun if you have the time. I am an avid poltiical junky!! I breath politics. But here is a question for the Americans here.. when in the last 120 years would you have voted for the other party.. as in the party you normally vote agaisnts. If I were American I would consider myself an indepednet that leans to the Democrats, though with that said there would have been times I would have voted GOP in the past 12 decades and the are

1904: T Roosevelt, 1912 for either Taft or Roosevelt and 1916 Charles Huges (because I really dont like Woodrow Wilson), 1920: Warren Harding, 1924: Calvin Coolidge and 1940: Wendel Wilkie

And times I may have gone Republican if i was present then but not too sure for one reason or another such as : 1900: William McKinley vs Willian Jennings (lack of knowledge), 1908: Taftvs Jennings (lack of knowledge), 1952 and 1956  Eisenhowervs Stevenson (becase both were decent enough) and 1976  Gerald Ford vs Jimmy Carter (again not too sure as both seem like decent men)

Every other election from 1900-2016 I would have gone Democratic (especially in '60 and '72). How about you ?

I honestly can't say. I think it's one thing to say how you would vote, looking at it from the outside, and completely different to be in that time.

I suppose that is true FTMax.This was suppose to be a cute little mind buster anyways, but it is true thats probably how I would have gone if I had the same knowledge i had today as I had if i lived in those times

I did change my entire political and voting pattern after 2008.  Before that I was a staunch Republican.  There were two primary reasons for that.  The first was the totally incompetent warmongering by Republicans and their strong tendency towards being extreme chickenhawks.  The second reason was that I lost all faith that the Republicans would ever fulfill anything at all that they promised.  They never do.  LBGT Issues also played a role but they were second to the ones listed, especially the incompetent warmongering.

I am old enough to remember the 1950's and the trouble with race relations back then. I was sympathetic towards any one who could make things right. Thank you Lyndon.

Later on, I became more concerned about fiscal issues during the days of double digit monetary inflation. Thank you Ronald.

I have never voted a straight ticket. I voted the issues of the day, until this past election when no candidate earned my vote. I did vote. I live in Florida, so I had to fill in a write in name so no one would be able to enter a vote inplace of me. Thank you Mickey Mouse.

I switched parties when i went from from a conservative culture and viewpoint to liberal ones. The pendulum for me has swung very far to the left now and i am not sure it is going to ever come back to the center.

That being said the Republican party of T. Roosevelt and even Eisenhower is a much different party the that of today and the same can be said for the Democratic party. In my opinion it would be nicer to have a multiparty system where the ruling party had to form a coalition with others that it does not agree with. Less extremism perhaps but not perfect.

I would consider changing from voting Republican to voting Democrat when Democrats change their views on things that mean a lot to me. I drive a truck and make 95% of my money from either oil fields or coal. On top of that I'm a huge supporter of Second Amendment rights and all I seem to hear from democrats is talks of fun control.
Republicans on the other hand don't want to cut out oil and coal for "green energy" and are all about a more direct approach to the Second which is why they continue to get my straight ballot votes in every election

I had always considered myself a Republican but several times in local and even state elections I've gone Independent or Democrat. I will no longer even consider a Republican candidate. The last straw was when they refused to even hold hearings on the appointment of the Supreme Court judge. They have stopped trying to work together and are putting the party before the country. I will abandon any party when they reach that point. As far as deviating from my normal voting patterns, I don't think I have a pattern anymore. I vote on the issues (many issues, not just the one I feel strongly about).

That last round of obstructionist politics is just a pay back for the obstructionist activities of a previous minority party. This goes back and forth and both major parties are equally guilty. Rather than trying to work with the party in power the minority party resorts to blocking everything. The people of America pay the price.

Exactly, I'm pretty much feed up with all of them. I don't know how to do it, but I wish we could get rid of the party system and get people in there that want to solve problems.

The issue being that different people have different problems to solve...right now the regime wishes to solve their "problem" with the LGBT community having rights, religion and gun advocates not having enough "rights" and everything Obama put him name on.
