Does anyone happen to know the consult charge for Dr. McGinn for bottom surgery?  How long was your wait until consult?

I have several fistulas I need repaired from my meta.  Has anyone gone to her for this?  Although Crane, my surgeon, will fix it for free, I will of course have to pay for the surgi center, anesthesia, travel, etc.

Side note, I know she does not take insurance.  I have no trans insurance $ left.

I am going to contact her office, of course, but on the off chance I could get an answer here, that would be great!  Thanks!

I'm still not sure why fistula repair falls under your insurance's trans policy. Cis men can get fistulas. I would seriously look into it. I think it is well worth the effort for the amount of money you'd be saving.

Consult fee is $150 and due 6 weeks in advance of the consult. I emailed them the requested forms from the website on 11/29. I got a phone call from a PA on 12/3 to schedule and go over some basic stuff to start a file there. My consult was scheduled for 7/31. They also require a phone review with a PA two weeks prior to the consult.

Her website implies that she does repairs though I have never heard of anyone going to her for it.

Hi, Max.  I hear what you are saying.  However, I don't think that I will be able to find a surgeon in network (private pay would be cheaper than out of network), who would be willing to touch my meta.  I am sure the entire scrotum needs to be opened.  I have 2 thick streaming fistulas and 3 drips.  Phallo fistulas are easier because they are usually on the shaft (per Bluebond-Langer).  I have Geisinger insurance.  Not too many people in network, except for the people who are in the hospital system I work in.  But, even if I could get someone in-network, I really don't want a person who has never worked with a created scrotum sac to be cutting it open.  I want someone experienced.

Where you live there is a good chance that you can find a provider who has dealt with trans people before.  It is not like that where I am.  There is no one in my state that even does top surgery.  I know I am close to Philly, but none of those people are in network.  I have no idea what the hell I was thinking when I went to B-L to remove my implant.  I just wasn't thinking it through.  I assumed that she could do a private pay situation.  I didn't think about how she is connected to a hospital.  I just knew I should get the thing out right away.

I also don't know how to go about finding a reconstructive urologist.  Do you just call everyone on your in network list and ask if they will work with meta/phallo?  I guess I could do that.

If there is no one that can do a procedure in network then the insurance company should be making an exception for someone out of network to be counted like they are in network.

It sounds like there are people in network, but they work for the same hospital system that OP works in. So I imagine that would be a bit awkward.
