Megan.

So now I'm out on FB and at work and living full-time,  I'm just wondering about my LinkedIn profile. I can choose to have changes to my profile picture and name sent out to my connections,  I'm curious what others have done?

I updated the name and picture without sending out the update messages.  THEN I posted a short 'article' and photo on my transition, and let that go out to everyone.  That way they had answers, not just questions.

My personal transition path included medical changes.  The path others take may require no medical intervention, or different care.  We each find our own path. I provide these dates for the curious.

I'd always steer clear of FB and the other FB (LinkedIn is pretentious Facebook)

Michelle -  a good approach. I have quite a few old colleagues on LinkedIn,  so some kind of brief explanation may be warranted!
Valkyrie - I do remember a time before the Internet! But these networks can be used for practical purposes as long we don't let them run our lives.

I changed it and didn't sent out any notifications.
I am active in one support site and I received a personal message about my account must have been hacked.  😁 I assured him it wasn't.

Dayta

I'm not QUITE out at work, freedom day is currently set at May 8th, but I updated my LinkedIn profile a couple of months ago by changing my first name to just my initial and dropping my profile photo.  I'm going to update my Facebook, probably the day I come out at work to everyone, and I figured to leave LinkedIn as is for a while.  It's completely accurate as it is.  Once I settle in to my new normal, maybe I'll update it.  Maybe not.  I haven't used it or anything other than catching up with some old friends, so it's not that important of a tool for me ATM.  Congrats to you though!

Dayta,  I hope all goes well for the 8th. I did the same,  work and FB on the same day.  Removed my old picture from linkedIn,  and now starting to consider updating it.

Erin, that is EXACTLY what I did last summer, about 5 months before coming out in public.  Online sites, e-mail, and everything else I could get to lost the old dude's photo, and the first names were all replaced with the initial.

I rolled out my online 'coming-out' on LinkedIn, as that was where I had connections to most of the people I hadn't seen in a while, old co-workers and acquaintances I knew from before retirement.  I did the quiet photo and name change and then posted a generic version of my coming-out letter and photo.  I used variations of that letter with the photo in letting organizations I am in know what was happening.

I then went live with the new Facebook page (see linky...), which is pretty much locked down to friends, just a few public entries for things I am promoting as part of my activism campaign.  (My Facebook 'friends' list is carefully curated to folks I know and trust, as things can get weird fast there.  :P  Alas, I have had to cull the list a few times when I've been too trusting.)
