How far in advance to schedule FFS?

Hello!

So, I'm about to conclude another chapter of my life, here in not even a week, where I'll be completing the second-last semester of my academic journey. Additionally, I will start my full-time career as a data analyst in May, and I graduate in December.

Obviously, change is transpiring---and it's doing so fast. It has been hard-earned, and I welcome it because there are a few procedures I've wanted to get for the entirety of my transition--- mostly FFS.

I've already (sometimes a bit compulsively) calculated how much money my FFS and breast augmentation will cost, and the high end of my estimates tend to be at around $15,000, which I'd accumulate pretty quickly (around a year, accounting for bills and such).

I want to get the procedures done as quickly as possible, but I'm also obviously getting a bit overwhelmed because the timeframe and process totally escapes me. See, whenever I got laser done a couple years ago, it blew me away how quickly my aspiration of getting that black facial hair zapped off became a reality. Basically, a very close friend paid around $1,000 upfront for me, and boom---the zapping process started like one week later.

But, what about operations---how soon in advance would you schedule for them. What I've been telling myself for quite some time now is that, once I secure a good internship, it's time to go surgeon shopping---and hopefully the surgeries will be done between 6 months and a year later. Thoughts?

Thanks for reading!

Congrats on your future! Sounds like you're on a good track in life.

As for surgery planning. A lot of it depends on the surgeon and how busy they are. Some GRS surgeons are booking up to two years out. Not sure about FFS, but I'd imagine it could be up to at least half that depending on the surgeon.

My suggestion is to be looking at least a year ahead of schedule. Do your research now, pick a surgeon or three and start making phone calls. You can always book out further, but you may not be able to book sooner.

Thank you! I'd never have imagined that it would take a year, or even close. Time to go surgeon shopping!!! :D

My appointment for an initial consultation was made in late February and the first available appointment was MAY 31.  That's just the consult.

I'm hoping the surgery is in the fall but won't find that until later.

Some Surgeons require letter(s) from a therapist for FFS so be prepared you may need to work through that too.

Laughable of them to potentially necessitate that given that I'm already legally female lol.

What kind of therapist would I even go to: a gender therapist? I didn't even go to therapy throughout my transition; I just got the hrt through informed consent at age 20 lol. I guess my informed consent clinic could help, just as they did for the gender marker change.

Then you are probably okay.  It's a CYA on their part but if you are already legally Female... not a problem.  Good luck.
