I very recently had "The talk" with my parents and they were very supportive. I am slowly going to approach the topic of starting hrt. For those who don't know me, I am 21 yrs old, from India(where things are still ->-bleeped-<-ty for us folk), mtf transgender person.
My mom said, she loved me whatever the circumstance and said that I had her complete support.
My dad was also very supportive and he talked very openly about the different hormonal treatments and surgeries I can opt to do.
We now talk about this stuff very openly in the house, its no more a tabboo.
I am really very happy with their reaction, I love them so much.
I guess, that is everything I have to share.

That's great, I hope it lasts, sometimes parents go back and forth with how the feel and support.

Very happy for you, Saira! I wish you very much happiness. Every support is welcome, as long as it is sincere. I reckon that I found it very surprising that your parents went from total denial to full approval and even support... But I truly wish you the best! ☺ Sarah

Oh, Saira, it was wonderful to read this!  Knowing that you are accepted and loved has got to lift a tremendous burden from you.  I hope you can find the proper care and treatment going forward to find joy in your life.

With love and respect,

Earth my body, water my blood, air my breath and fire my spirit.

My personal transition path included medical changes.  The path others take may require no medical intervention, or different care.  We each find our own path. I provide these dates for the curious.

Aww hun that's awesome news!! So happy to hear that they're being supportive.  You'll probably find that they'll make some mis-steps at times when interacting with you but if they're anything like my parents they'll be honest mistakes and they'll happily learn from them.  Also, keep in mind that just because they're accepting doesn't mean they aren't struggling with it.  Even the most accepting of family members will still experience some grief at the loss of the person they once knew.  My mom has been amazing but she still cries sometimes when we talk about the past.  However, once she saw Alyssa for the first time, she said she could tell by my glow that it was the right thing for me.  I hope you continue to find the same support with your parents.

Girl you are so lucky!!!! Especially having a father who even spoke about hormones. I know India is a very conservative country, but are transgender people accepted there? Since Indians are spiritual, I wonder if they somehow accept this as some sort of spirit in the wrong body like I've seen in other Asian countries.
Latina :) I speak Spanish, English and a bit of Portuguese.

Saira, congratulations on taking this huge step!  I know it couldn't have been easy for you, but you did it.  And I am beyond happy for you that your parents are supportive.
