Looking for "San Antonio LGBT" was the key to finding the information I needed. After a quick phone I was able to get an appointment the next day. The one drawback was the new patient cost of $200, and no option to use insurance. All follow-up appointments are $100.
The staff was very friendly, and helpful when I arrived. After filling out some paperwork, I was off to to see the Nurse Practitioner. He was friendly as well, and eased any nervousness as soon as we started talking. We talked about my history, and about my goals for about 20 minutes. After that I had a script, and was on my way. There is a 30 day follow-up appointment for blood work, and to see how I'm doing.
There was an issue with getting my prescription filled at CVS. The pharmacist was not comfortable filling the estradiol (high dosage), which she thought was too high of a dose. Also the sipro was flagged as a potential conflict with another blood pressure medication. So, I'm hopeful a quick phone call tomorrow will resolve everything.
Overall, it was a surreal experience, and any nervousness was wiped away as soon as I got there.
The nurse practitioner has had his own practice since 2009, and appears to be well known to the LGBT community. He has multiple specialties, but most of his patients are there for psych or HRT.
