Can anyone give any help?
I do two shaves, once with and once against the grain

Orange lipstick over area, liquid foundation, concealer, blush but that disgusting blue shines through.

Is the only option really to have it waxed? :)
Let's see where this journey takes me.

Hey try putting a translucent powder over the orange concealer before applying foundation. This helps to keep the concealer from mixing with the foundation which defeats the purpose of originally applying concealer. If you can maybe get the LA Girl orange concealer.

It always stands out, weither it's the shadow itself or the massive amounts of make up.
Just start laser! Get it over with, waxing will make laser less effective.

So Ive looked it up a bit and it seems laser removal would take around 8 sessions at £200 a session.
I also saw that it only lasts a year.

I simply cannot afford to pay that yearly.
Let's see where this journey takes me.

Proper laser hair removal, not IPL lasts and it is permanent

Prices for laser hair removal vary so much. Shop around. You will need about 6 treatments about one month or so between treatments. It is pretty much permanent, if it is done with a proper laser.

Here in the US, there are many laser practitioners who offer a package deal. If you go that route then pick a specialist who has a proven track record, because if they go out of business, you are out of money.

Laser only works for dark hair,  and the FDA states the only permanent method of hair removal is electrolysis.  I say this because I too had a shadow that showed through, even though my actual hair that grows out is not that dark-- I tried laser for 2 years once a month and I don't really feel it helped much at all so it definitely wasn't worth the price.  I have been doing electrolysis I've gotten about 70 hours in and they think its taking me longer to do electrolysis because I did the laser for so long it had effect on my hairs but didn't kill them - or something to that nature.

This is my makeup routine if I feel like I have shadow (I don't have as much anymore since electrolysis even tho I still have to shave daily its mostly blonde hair left) also this will be the simplified version, if you want a more in depth feel free to PM me.  also I'm not going to mention brands because I'm unsure if that's forbidden or not, anyone know? If it's not I can come back and add those in.

note I'm pretty fair, I wear usually the lightest shade in any drugstore foundation
-moisturize my face and let it set a moment after shaving
-tiny drop of primer on my upper lip (that's the only area mine was ever super bad, under my chin some too but it usually didn't show through my foundation)
-coverstick concealer over the upper lip and blend lightly with finger (I do this to try to both cancel out the color and try and cover the hair follicle pores I feel like it helps it look smoother, if you have a very dark shadow it may be easier if you skip this step and go from the primer straight to the orange color corrector)
-orange color corrector (I use a semi-matte orange lipstick, blend out with ring finger not too much, but enough so that it doesn't feel too thick) let sit for a moment
-I then take a liquid concealer that is 1 or 2 shades darker than my other concealer (but not like crazy dark, should still be sort of natural looking) apply to back of my hand and then I take a blender sponge and dab it onto the orange, when I run out of concealer, i dip again onto my hand and dab again-- keep doing this until the orange is covered.  I have to reapply to sponge a few times because you don't want to blend much here because you need the orange to be there.
-then take blender sponge (mine is dry I don't wet it) and dip in translucent powder and lightly dab onto the concealer like you're "baking" let sit for a moment
-lightly very very lightly brush that off with fluffy makeup brush
-then I go in with my foundation.  I do all of these steps whether I'm wearing liquid or powder foundation.
-set with setting spray

please let me know if I can mention brands because I feel this post would be more effective if I could say exactly what I use, and I could tell you the shades of the colors I use so you could see my skin tone and the tone of the concealers.  When I was first transitioning I always had horrible shadows and I saw this stuff online about using orange to color correct and it wasn't until 2-3 years into my transition that I finally got this down pat to be able to hide my shadow.

hope it helps xo! :-*

They make foundation called dermablend. It was actually designed for burn victims.  It will even cover tattoos.  One of the guys I work with does drag and he has a bad shadow. It covers it up. He also has foundation called kryolan TV paintstick. He says a lot of drag queens use it to cover their shadow.

If you can't do laser and do end up waxing use Brazilian wax. You can get it on amazon. Brazilian wax is very thick and you don't need strips. You rip off the wax itself when it gets hard. Brazilian wax doesn't leave any hair behind and you don't have to grow the hair very long for it to pick it up. I use it at work all the time on men and women and it works great.

I hope some of this is helpful.

Hugs

Hi SFBarbie, I'm not a moderator (they know the correct answer) but I am pretty sure it's ok to mention brands of makeup if you're not selling the stuff - quite helpful to share specific methods that work for you.

I can totally relate to the beard shadow issue - I've been there.  Some people have reported success with laser, and some have found medical-grade laser is not permanent.  I'm in that second category.  Laser worked great on my body hair but not for face or genital area.  Depends on genetics and age - not just due to grey hairs, but the number of years those roots have been stubbornly replenishing themselves.

I don't think there's any problem with brands.  I've used Ben Nye concealer and corrector palettes, usually sold into the film and TV industry.  That stuff would stick to the hair stubble and let me color it out even on the day before electrolysis when I had to grow it out a little.

I might suggest running some cheap orange lipstick over your first layer of foundation and covering it up with a lighter foundation and setting all up it with powder.

This thread is exactly why I went with laser and then electrolysis. So happy I did. No more orange lipstick. No more hairs peeking out after a few hours. No more anxiety of when I should/can shave. Not more makeup if I don't feel like it. So liberating.

The very best thing you can possibly do with your money is invest it in electrolysis. I've seen posts here about laser but that is temporary. The hair may grow back when you are older - years from now.

I've invested 3 years on electrolysis on my face and it's the best money spent.

BTW, I did about 6 laser sessions on my face and the place should have been honest with me and told me that based on my skin tone (fair) with light auburn hair just doesn't have enough pigment to effectively remove hair permanently - especially in the upper lip area.

Nowadays, I can go by weeks without shaving. If I notice any stray dark hairs popping up, I'll schedule an electrolysis session  to remove the stubborn ones that I plucked for years in the upper lip area.

As others have said; laser would be very helpful if you have dark hair and light skin! And peach base is good for dark undertones.

Dermablend.  Apply to problem areas.  Problem gone.  Yeah, you are a cake face, but so is about 50% of cis females.   The transgender community is not keeping dermablend , mac, clinique, estee lauder. Loreal, etc., in business.

Note: Dermablend is about $40 but it lasts a long time.  If you need cheaper alternatives Pan Stik by Max Factor is the OG (original gangsta) full coverage foundation.  You can find it on Amazon.

Laser and electrolysis are necessary, but as others have mentioned the results vary by many factors.  About five years in, I realized it's probably NEVER going to all be killed.  So now I have a tria and knock it down from time to time.  I moved on to other goals ffs.  Gcs, etc.

My experience is very similar to Nina_NYC.  After a laser fail on my face (my facial hair was dark red) I got serious with thermo electrolysis.  I now have essentially zero facial hair or stubble - have 1 or 2 barely visible hairs show up after a month which I get zapped while having remaining touch-up with electrolysis on other areas (body).  By next year I expect to remain completely hair-free on my face, and I have seen other such cases.  I got rid of all my shavers and I have never waxed.

I started out (dec 2014) with 9 laser treatments, 6 to 8 weeks apart to remove (reduce) the dark hairs. I was told it wouldn't do a great job on the gray hairs. I now have around 115 hours of electrolysis and I kept bi-monthly photos of my hair loss. To me electrolysis is the only thing to really get rid of hair, but I do believe the laser did help in reducing, and therefore the cost. (close to $10K already)

I stopped using makeup since I am afraid it might harm my skin as it go into the pores of my skin after electrolysis, and of course I have to stop shaving 3 to 4 days prior my weekly 2 hour session.

I used a special concealer they sell at Sephora, which is used for tattoo cover. Also MAC sells a upper lip concealer in the shape of a lipstick. I will have to find the products when I get home, I am currently at work.
