I knew this was going too well. 

Transition at 63, full time, HRT.  No one has said anything negative to me at all.  My landlord gave me a hug.  The provost gave me a hug.  When I told HR and asked them what I needed to do to come out at work they answered "What can we do for you?"  Family not a problem.  Friends largely not a problem- have made some new ones.   Most of all, a life long battle with major depression just vanishes.   I decide for gender correction.

I find a surgeon and we set everything up.  We have a date.  I get all my supplies together (with the help of Charley Ann's most comprehensive and useful list.  Check it out!).  Now I need a pre-op physical and a lot of lab work.  The physical goes fine.

The lab work doesn't.

Thyroid, blood count, kidneys.  After speaking with my local doctor the Clinical Supervisor at my surgeon's office tells me it's off.  It was supposed to be one week from today.

I was shattered.   I cried like a baby.  My sister, who knows about such things, says that if any of the problems I have were serious ones I'd be really sick.  Maybe so, but the shatteredness is not going away.   I keep thinking that something is involved that will keep me from having surgery at all.  I need some more good news.  Maybe I'm not entitled after all I've had.

Sorry to hear of your setback. But wait  to see what the doctors say. I'm going to be 60 this year, and hoping to be able to have FFS soon. I have CLL which I'm hoping won't be a problem. But of course I'll need a full physical. At our age you just never know. [emoji53]

If past labs have been good, I would question if the labs messed up. I have had labs make a mistake and when the next test was run, I was magically cured. Unfortunately a week may not be enough time for a retest but it's worth checking into.

I second this, I also have had miracle cures when retested for thngs!!!! ... I'm so sorry for the setback!... How utterly disappointing!!

Honey, I'm so sorry you had to go through this.

As others have said, I wouldn't accept this at face value, either.  You pass a physical, and your lab work says your thyroid, blood, and kidneys have issues?  What kind of issues?  Why did they test for TSH?  What wrong with your blood work?  Hematocrit low (anemia?), clotting time?  And the kidneys - what was up with that?  Was it your GFR? My GFR is low, like below 50 (< 60 is supposed to mean "chronic kidney disease"), and my doctor and surgeon were both okay with it.

This stinks that this happened one week before your scheduled surgery!  How was that even possible? My surgeon requires lab results at least one month before the surgery date.  Okay, so let's get past that. Maybe you have to reschedule your surgery, but you have to wipe away the tears and gather your inner strength here, sweetie. Start looking for paths forward.

First of all, if you don't know already, you need to find out exactly what the issues are, and by all means get your doctor to order new labs.  Then, depending on the results you make a new plan. Never give up!

Do you take any medication that could affect kidneys? Such as some pain killers or Lithium or something? Does not mean it is a permanent problem.

I know some pain killers affect the liver. I've had high values on my liver because of pain gel.

You should ask your doctor for more information.

Thyroid problems are also easily fixed. I have had Hashimoto's since I was a teen. But it is under control with medication.

Good luck. Try getting more info about your blood work!

I have a list as long as your arm of medical issue but not one of them precludes me from surgery...I have over active thyroid, high cholesterol, long term medication management issues to name a couple, It may not be as bad as what you think...it may delay you until these things are back within normal ranges etc but think positive. I hope they can get things sorted with you and back on track ASAP
