Hello Everyone 

My first post...rather nervous! but here goes !

I wanted to reach out to all you lovely people and get some advice about my upcoming transition.

I am 24 now (Sometimes I feel like I have left it to late but hey ho !) I have been struggling with my gender since childhood, even more so for the last 6/7 years where I have been very gender neutral and wearing girls clothes in private.

For the last year, I have been terrified of making the big step and booking an appointment with the doctor. I have finally made this step and go next Monday!

I have managed to save up a decent amount of money (around £40K) and I want to use this to help me transition.

I know the first step is to speak to a professional but I wondered what happens next ? How quick is it before i can get hormones.... do you have to live full time as a girl before I can get them? I have so many questions !

Would love to hear some initial advice or information x

Procedures vary a lot from one country to another.  I know that waiting lists are a problem in the UK.  Hopefully someone from there can answer that part of your question.  Seeing a professional is the first step, so congratulations on taking that.  You will want your doctor to refer you to a gender therapist who will screen you for readiness for hormone treatment. 

Though the earlier you start, the better the results, you have definitely not left it too late.  Most of us start in our 40s to 50s, and many start in their 60s.  I am 62 and just started on hormones early this year.    So you are at a good age to transition.

Welcome to Susan's Place. In the UK if you want to use the public system, it would take about 2 years and I think you would need to be in RLE. If you go private,  HRT could happen pretty fast and RLE wouldn't be required. After you see the doctor, one of the things you should consider is facial hair removal. It takes a long time and if you have to use electrolysis, you need about 3 days of growth when you have treatment. Your option will depend on where you live so ask your doctor about it.

I am based in London so in a pretty good position i think for specialists, By going private, do I just refer myself to a psychiatrist or where would I start ?

I have started having laser on my face and body, my friend told me laser should get rid of most and then to follow up with electrolysis for anything left over ?

Also with Hormones....how often are they taken ? Daily ,  weekly or ?

Also a big part of my expenses are for my FFS surgery, which will totally around £27K with Dr Kamol in Thailand.... Should I get breast augmentation at the same time or ? I was thinking that SRS surgery could be the last thing i do.... I don't know why but I am more concerned about becoming the female I want to be in looks before having the SRS...Is that strange , should SRS be the first thing I want ?

There are different forms for the hormones.  Some people take them daily as pills, some twice weekly as a patch, some weekly as an injection, some monthly as an implant.  It depends on what your doctor sees as risk factors.  I am on a twice-weekly patch for estrogen and a daily pill for spironolactone, the androgen blocker I am on.

Your priorities for surgery are something you should discuss with your gender therapist.  No one can tell you what your priorities should be.

Hi honey, don't rush into FFS and breast augmentation. First priority is to get hormonal balance into female range and give it some time to work.
