Hello. (Wow, it's been forever since I last visited this website)

Things have been changing a lot since I was last here. I have been trying to cope with my mental instabilities (without much success so far) I have came out to my father finally, which surprisingly went really well. I have made amazing new friends, etc.

However, I am working on becoming a young man and a (hopefully) functioning adult. I have made the decision to try and move on to Colorado. Here's the thing though.... I am not sure what their transgender laws are in Colorado. I don't know if they are more strict or more laid back than Missouri. I haven't found much information so far and I thought it would be helpful to maybe ask you guys/gals, especially if you live or have lived in the state before.

If you wish to know specifics, I would like to know information on name change, HRT (FtM), and even maybe some FtM doctors that might be in Colorado.

I'm a coastal California girl but did spend a year working, pre transition, in Colorado..  I absolutely loved the state and would think it would be a good place for new beginnings in your life... I am not sure what the current state of their TG laws are but I am sure in the larger areas like Denver metro and Colorado Springs area you would find good LGBTQ community support and also in the smaller, but University driven areas of Boulder and Ft Collins.... I lived in Westminster which is in greater Denver heading towards Boulder and also stayed in Loveland for a month when I went to Bomb School ( UXO ) training

I think I saw somewhere that Colorado is one of the best states for TG because they have laws protecting TG's. If it was me, I'd probably be looking at the Denver and Boulder areas. 

Before starting anything I would suggest joining a support group. They are a great source of local information.
I have to disagree about Colorado Springs. It is location for 4 military bases including the Air Force Academy, It is also one of the most religious, right wing communities in the country.
Boulder and Denver would appear to be the better choice.

I currently live in northern Colorado and find it to be very lgbtq friendly. Colorado is a big state and the responses will vary greatly between eastern farm country and Boulder County. You did not mention which area of the state you are thinking about but as mentioned by Ashley, the Denver Boulder areas are very friendly with plenty of support groups. You might look up Out Boulder County (outboulder.org) to get some info on support and a feel for what the environment is like. They or the Gender Identity Center in Denver (giccolorado.org) have listings of doctors and therapists that can deal with hrt and transitioning in either direction.

Dawn mentioned that Colorado Springs could be a bit iffy. I agree that the military is working on being more sensitive to lgbtq issues but that does not mean that it makes being in a conservative military community safe. I know of some transgender folks that live in that town and like it, but for me, personally, I try to stay away from the area.

The laws are liberal here and there are not many incidents of harassment but caution is needed where ever you end up. As for name change, there are lots of web sites that detail the procedure. There are requirements for background checks and court orders, cumbersome but doable.

Let me know if you have any specific questions. Just remember that while you are becoming a young man, I am becoming an eccentric crazy old lady and you may have to speak loudly to me to get me to understand.

I can't fully specify exactly where I am heading. (example, naming a city or county) I do know that I am wanting to live around in the mountain area. I hope this give you guys/gals something more to go off of...

My recent trip, Boulder and surrounding area, was amazing.  I was mam'ed multiple times, even with my horrible voice.  The traffic, the days I was there, was horrible though and that is the only negative I can give about the area.

Hi Artesia!!! Yes, traffic was terrible in the Denver area when I lived there in 1999 so I'm sure it is way worse now... I use to have to drive through "The Mousetrap" at I-70 & I-25 at rush hour everyday... Arggg!!!

Vince!... If you seek to be actually in the mountains.... Boulder has a mountain feel with The Flatirons overlooking the town but like Denver it is more ... Mountain adjacent.... Estes Park is absolutely gorgeous and the ski resort towns like Breckenridge as well but living there is likely not cheap!

My friend will be selling her mountain home in the coming months it was so beautiful, but she has so many bad memories there.  I'd buy it, but I couldn't afford it.....and I don't think I could make it down the mountain without killing myself if I drove it.

I would still recommend contacting the Out Boulder County folks that I mentioned in an ealien post. They are pretty well networked and should be able to provide you contacts in the areas you are interested in. I can tell you that when you get away from the metropolitan areas the lgbtq  resources become pretty limited. Good luck.

We currently live in Ohio, but me and my girlfriend have been talking about moving to Colorado because its supposed to be one of the more lgbt friendly states, and relatively cheaper than Oregon & Washington. We both may have some level of transgender issues going on but don't feel safe addressing them here in rural Ohio and feel that a move is necessary.

Hardest part will be me finding a job, and assistance for my gf's disabilities she is working through.
