I'm going solo to NYC this weekend, and I'm so excited!  I'll be staying in an Airbnb owned by a girl and her roommate, who both know I'm trans and will be Aria while I'm there.

That said, is there anyone who lives or has visited the city with suggestions on where to go/eat/etc?  This could be specifically Trans (or broadly LGBT) oriented, but also any general ideas would be great too.  I'm planning to let my food cravings lead me to eateries, but have no plans otherwise.

Thanks in advance!

If I found myself in NYC I'd be looking for some thin crust pizza for sure! Have fun!

Visit Soho and the Village. Lots of great places to eat and shop.

I go there a lot both on business and for pleasure.  I can definitely point you to some great places.

For real New York Pizza checkout John's on Bleecker street in Greenwich Village.

If you like Italian food, go to little Italy and check out any of the places there.  In particular Cafe Napoli is amazing. For dessert go over to La Belle Ferrera for the best canoli on the island.

For a whole mix of options, got to Stone Street in the Financial District.  There's a one block stretch extending West from Williams street that is closed to traffic and all the restaurants habe outdoor seating setup in the street.  Stone Street Tavern and Ulysses are two places of note in that area.  Ulysses has great burgers and they have a lobster special on Mondays.

For shopping, walking E. Broadway through Soho will take you past designer shops and quaint little single store places.

Times Square is annoying with all the people but if you're ok with big crowds it's one of those must see once places.

There are also some great places in Chelsea (Checkout the Chelsea Market for lunch one day) and in the Village. I live just across the water in NJ but I'm going to be in Chelsea on Saturday for a filming interview for a trans related documentary. I may have some free time between 1:30 and 3pm. PM me if want to meet up. It's always awesome to see someone in person from this forum  :)

My favorite area of NYC is the lower east side. Tompkins sq park is historic and funky. Yuca Bar at 7th and avenue A is amazing food and affordable by NYC standards. Around the corner on St marks place is dumpling man where you can eat your fill of freshly made Chinese dumplings *cheap* is also a favorite. Sadly I see Hop Devil which was my favorite dive bar in NYC has closed.

A sentimental favorite area was the meatpacking district that was home to sex and bdsm clubs such as hellfire/manhole and the Vault from the '80s through about 2000. That area is rapidly turning upscale and is right by the south terminus if the high line.
