Summer is approaching. We have talked about going on a cruise at some point. (Hopefully not this year) As I am trans and still with my female partner, it made me wonder what kind of cruise we would go on. Years ago, it would be an easy answer, go on the straight cruise. Now, I don't think we would relax much there, and I wonder about a gay cruise. I think it would be more interesting, more fun. Any thoughts? What would you do?

Gay people are generally much more accepting of the non binary. Maybe also a younger set?

How is trangender acceptance on gay cruises? There used to be some hostility.

Totally agree... All my gay friends embark on a cruise later this year. I have to admit I am jealous and was very tempted to join. Not sure about Trans acceptance on such a cruise... Not sure I could get my wife to join...

I'm going on a gay qruise in September. That will be fun!

My wife and I are planning a Bucket list holiday for next year and part of that is going to be a cruise, I never considered a gay cruise....there are certainly some places that a year ago we may have visited but not now. We are really having to think about where we want to go to ensure that what ever we decided they are LGBT friendly

In terms of being seen out as a lesbian couple my wife and I have never had a problem in a resort environment, but -- pay serious attention to where the cruise docks.  Some Central American and Caribbean countries are definitely not LGBT friendly.  A gay cruise would avoid questionable ports of call.

Is there a list of ports that are/aren't friendly?

One thing I've heard from my gay friends is that "LGBT" cruises cost more since they are chartered.  They all have said that most/all cruises have LGBT groups that form. 

A cruise is definitely on my bucket list in the next few years.

Also consider where you sail out of. My wife and I have gone on Carnival a few times. Sailing from New Orleans was both a newer nicer ship and people all around. Last time we went from Mobile AL. While many were very nice on board, as I was always in fem style clothes, there was also a huge number of Christian revivalist on that ship. They even got the live music to play Christian themed songs at the casino.

I got some stares, my wife who has a shaved head with tattooed Japanese wave art also got more than a few looks. I heard one say something about praying for us as we walked past a bunch of them waiting to go to a church service in the meeting room they had set aside for them. On the other hand a number of the ship staff were LGBT and very friendly. At dinner one night a butch matradi at the fancy restaurant pulled the chair out for me not my wife. I guess she figured I was the fem one of the two of us. Which is right. Lol


Oh yeh so depending on how you present, in some places you might get some rude comments. Like Mexico where men think being machismo is sooo special. Stick to the big popular resorts. The people there care about having tourists coming back and will be really nice. In some ho dunk places you may get the negativity. The port on Cotsumel seemed mostly nice as did the large beach day resorts. At the port some of the small street vendors can be rude where those with storefronts are not. One guy called my wife a gordido meaning fatty after she didn't want his crap he was selling. He waited until we were walking away but said it load enough he's lucky we weren't in the states. I think she could have easily beat the crap out of the guy.

Tell you what.  I went on an Olivia cruise with my girlfriend a couple of years ago.  I was preop at the time and made sure that the folks signing me up were aware that I was trans and where I was in my transition.  They assured me that I was fine and would fit in without a problem.  My avitar is me and I looked pretty much like that then as well, but I still had to shave every day.   I had a wonderful time and was neither clocked nor made to feel uncomfortable at all.  I haven't gone on a straight cruise since transitioning but am doing so with my brother next April.  I'll let you know how that works out.
