What/How long did it take for your body hair to thin out?

Hey y'all!

So, I'm 4.5 months HRT and see some body hair lightening. I know YMMV, so I'm curious, what was your experience with body hair like?
Did HRT alone help enough? Or did you need anything else added, like laser or electrolysis?

Mine was always pretty sparse, thanks to DES.  But, at six months on HRT currently, I have noticed quite a change.

I had maybe a couple of dozen hairs on my chest.  Since I started HRT, they went from dark to blond, from thick-ish to very fine, and finally from there to mostly gone.  I shaved them for a while, but I can no longer find them, except for a handful around my right nipple that are only visible if the light catches them just right.

Same for my legs.  I was never really hairy, but I did shave them from time to time.  Now, it hardly seems worth the effort.

I didn't pay much attention to it, as I had already gotten my legs lasered sufficiently to clear them, and was about 3/4 of the way to clearing my chest, but at around 8 months into E, I looked down at my arms and realized that the hair had significantly lightened and thinned.  I was half considering having my arms lasered when I started my transition, but at this point it seems hardly worth it.  Makes me wonder how much my chest hair and legs might have thinned out on their own as well.

I have found with body hair that it HRT seemed to make no difference for ages then I suddenly noticed much of it was finer and lighter especially on my chest. I think (and I am guessing) that we probably need to shed all our old hair before the new lighter stuff comes in and for me it seemed like nothing was going to happen for ages... I did have some laser on my stomach and chest but I only had a few sessions and I don't really know how much of a difference it actually made.

Electrolysis for chest and abdomen took care of that area. Hairs on legs really thinned down and became sparse on high doses of E injections (+ progesterone) post-op, many years after I started HRT. Also took care of the little hair I had lower back area. Even inner thighs, pubic area, hairs became really thin and lighter. The first area where body hair significantly slowed and thinned was lower leg area and buttocks.

Since adding a little T a few months ago, hair in the upper leg and upper arm area grows slightly faster and thicker/darker. But worth it...for now! :)

I am not a medical doctor, nor a scientist - opinions expressed by me on the subject of HRT are merely based on my own review of some of the scientific literature over the last decade or so, on anecdotal evidence from women in various discussion forums that I have come across, and my personal experience

On HRT since early 2004
Post-op since late 2005

Most of the timelines you see show the onset of thinning body hair beginning at the six month mark. It's generally listed as the last HT effect to begin.

I'm about eight months into HT, but I have a really difficult time trying to quantify how much thinning I've experienced because my body hair is very fine and blonde. Even with over a weeks growth, body hair is just not visible. A little while beyond six months on HT, I began to think that I could tell it was growing slower. Now at the eighth month mark, I'm pretty darn sure that it's growing slower. It's been a week since I last shaved my legs and the stubble, while not visible feels like it used to at the two or three day mark before HT.

The slowing may also be affecting my beard growth, but the effect is much less pronounced. It's also completely blonde/grey such that a "shadow" never really shows. The stubble is visible at a face-to-face distance on day three.

I've not had any electrolysis or laser treatments. I think laser treatments would be totally ineffective on me.

All the best,

Mine had greatly thinned by about a year. To be fair, pre-hrt waxing probably helped a it. I do not think i will need any more removal on my torso or back, just a few stray patches here and there on my chest.

Facial grows very slow.

On HRT for a year. I did 3 sessions of full body laser and it killed off most of my dark hairs, except on my face I probably have a couple dozen left on my face, but I'm starting to kill them with DIY electrolysis.

The bulk of my body hair is blonde, sadly. It is nice that is stays much less visible, but laser is ineffective on it.

I epilate most of my body, so most of it stays light and thin. Even though most people don't notice it, I can't stand the feeling of it and if I let it go for a week, I start to get dysphoric about it. My chest hair as slowed down the most, which is nice.

Since I started Prometrium a few months ago, I think the hair growth has accelerated a bit, but I love the other effects of progesterone, so I won't be giving it up.

Body/facial hair is one of my biggest challenges and wish there were more options to get rid of it.

What kind of epilator do you use?

I think it all depends on how your body reacts to HRT. For me it took me approximately 6 months to see a chance in hair thickness and growth rate on my limbs
