Tight Bralette Damage Ribs?

Hi everybody,

First off, I'm going to urgent care tomorrow (which I'm already nervous about having to come out to doctors).

I had these comfortable bralettes that may have shrunk because I put them in the dryer. I noticed more and more that they were getting uncomfortable, until my chest started hurting right where the elastic band was on my ribs.
I stopped wearing them, and the pain went away, but I wore them again and now the pain won't go away, even though I'm not wearing them.

This happened within a few weeks, no more than a month probably.
Could this have damaged my ribs in such a short period of time? :(

Ther is no way that a bralette could have damaged your ribs, well atleast I highly doubt it.
The pressure it would take to damage bones in this period of time would have sure bust the bra at some point.
That said you should not be wearing things that are too tight. It's not cute not comfortable and not healthy.
Get new ones.
Let us know what the doctor says

That's what's weird. They have an elastic band and didn't seem too tight. Maybe my ribs already looked like that, or maybe it has to do with ligaments and muscle or something.

I am a bit relieved to hear it's likely not bone though.

Yeah, I would highly doubt it's bone.
You are even the corset crowd, they can slow deform bones over huge periods of time.
But the pressure a corset exerts is massive compared to a bra.
Still not necessarily healthy either, but when it is done right you risk very little
To change your bones in the period of time you would have to break them, and they are no broken from a bralette that's for sure.
Your lats are probably just a little irritated. I wouldn't worry to much

Ribs can be surprisingly easy to break. My father broke his ribs twice by leaning over a fence so it's possible you injured yourself some other way. Muscles on the other hand can sometimes take a month or two before they stop hurting. Muscles can be worst because they can hurt every time you move. It's a good idea to see a doctor about this because broken ribs can be dangerous.

I hope it's not too serious, good luck. Coming out to medical professionals was a positive experience for me. First I told my psychologist because gender dysphoria is unfortunately a big part of my thinking. Then my GP, an endocrinologist and now my psychiatrist. It feels good to talk about it after keeping it secret for 30 years. You could also just direct the doctor to investigate without saying too much.

Ribs can be surprisingly easy to break.

This happens quite often in people over the age of 60. Not so common in young people.

Excellent advice. Broken ribs are very painful with each breath.

Amen  Even worse was getting up and out of bed  :o :o :o

Always check the back stairs for ice before walking out with your coffee in one hand and lunch box in the other

I bought a sports bra based on the size chart but it was so constricting that I had to remove it after 10 minutes so I could breath. No broken bones though.

Thanks for all the replies!

As for age: I'm 25, no deficiencies that I'm aware of, no latex allergy. The pain isn't sharp, nor when I inhale. But it's pretty consistent and not just blunt.

I'm waiting at the doctor's, will update in a bit.

In any given contest of ribs vs spandex, bet on the ribs.

Okay! Results:
Absolutely nothing. I'm relieved that I'm fine, but also, confused as to why I'm still in pain as they didn't give me any answer aside from "don't wear it anymore, relax and keep pressure off/take Motrin for pain."

Sounds like a bruised or pulled muscle. They can hurt like the blazes and they take a long time to recover. The old saying, Doctor, it hurts when I do that, Then don't do that applies util it heals.
