I recently noticed that my Spiro I'm taking smells like peppermint, quite strongly actually. I had to double check to make sure the pharmacist hadn't accidentally spilled his Altoids in the bottle by mistake but nope, definitely a strong smell of mint. There's even a little minty aftertaste to them. The bottle actually says peppermint in tiny print at the bottom of the label where it says what the pills should look like. Is it just this particular manufacturer, or is this a common thing across the board with this medicine? Honestly I'm concerned that I'm supposed to be chewing them or dissolving them under my tongue cause of the flavoring. They ARE just meant to be swallowed with water like normal right? I've been on HRT for a week now and I don't want to mess up my transition by not taking my pills correctly.

Yup, the current supplier for Kaiser NorCal has minty Spiro!  I can smell it quite strongly when I open the bottle, and of course in the taste.  It masks the slightly nasty case the drug normally has.

Just swallow like always.

My personal transition path included medical changes.  The path others take may require no medical intervention, or different care.  We each find our own path. I provide these dates for the curious.

Yeah a lot of the generic ones are minty and kinda gross.

My gf had one that wasn't minty from a compounding pharmacy and I liked it better, but all of mine have been minty.

Peppermint calms the stomach. Granny used it all her life for her sick stomach.

Mine doesn't smell like peppermint.  They are huge horse pills that taste like ass.

They put the peppermint in them to disguise the urine odor that they have naturally

One other thing to note, it is much cheaper to buy  double or quadruple the the lowest strength tabs rather than getting the higher strengths.   If you have a straight dollar amount co-pay that doesn't matter.

I noticed the peppermint smell right away and checked and found where it said  the mint was added. It almost turns my stomach.

My dad's insurance pays for it so I get the big nasty horse pills instead of the small ones that smell good.😞

Thank you ladies for making me go and smell my pill bottle.  ;D

Yes, it does smell like peppermint.  Guess I've never noticed it before today.

Yes the first brand I tried was minty and with a strong gross taste. This second one doesn't smell or taste.

Mine taste minty as well.  In fact I love it.  Maybe I'm weird but I look forward to that taste - morning and night.

It's like a mini McDonalds Shamrock Shake. LOL

Why are people saying that spiro tastes like anything you aren't supposed to chew them like candy.  Yes mine smell like mints but I never  have them in my mouth to  taste anything.

The first brand smelled and tasted so strong that just by putting it in my tongue it was super bitter. I would swallow it right away of course but having contact with any part of my mouth or throat was enough. This doesn't happen with the new one.

Most brands you have to pretty much stick your nose in the bottle to smell it now.  I remember being overwhelmed the first time I opened a brand new stock bottle when I first started in pharmacy.

From my experience, the yellow/coated ones don't really smell/taste like mint anywhere near as much as the white/uncoated ones.

This thread is starting to sound like a wine tasting club where fine Spiro is discussed.   ;D

Yes, mine do.  The first time I noticed it I was afraid I'd left my bottle of essential oil open in my purse with my pills.
